Bishops Castle 5 2013 - Enter the Dragon
First topic message reminder :
To allow time for you guys & gals to save beer tokens & build up enough Brownie points etc a date of Saturday 8th June has been decided for BC5.
As usual the ride will be centered around Shropshire & Wales & peeps are welcome to join for just the rideout or to B&B/camp for both the Friday & Saturday nights with food in the local hostelries which will be announced in due course.
B&B's are aplenty & most will take a booking in advance without requiring payment untill the weekend in question so its always a good idea to book early as last year it got very busy with a local wedding taking up some of the B&B's we normally use.
Below is a link to the main places to stay all within easy walking distance & please just ask if we can offer any help or advice, The Claremont also have as well as B&B a property which can be shared by a number of peeps who may wish to reduce costs by sharing & if I remember correctly a garage they have allowed us to use for the bikes in the past.
The Foxholes Camp site have a Bunk house, Static Caravan & Camping available.
Thanks Nick & Ellie

On a serious note please try and let me know if your interested asap, as I don't really want to pay out for a twin room if there's only me staying, would rather cancel the room and camp for the two nights...

Re: Bishops Castle 5 2013 - Enter the Dragon
Ladies & Gents,
One week to go so I'd just like to ask peeps old & (especially) new to have a look at the 'drop off' system we will be running as usual
https://www.yamaha-thundercats.org/t5389-marker-drop-off-system
The only slight alteration to this will be that due to the size of the group we will be leaving two markers (people) at each junction & two Tail End Charlies to hopefully allow us to take control any issues that may crop up however minor.
The main aim is to have a safe enjoyable day & I will reiterate that the marker system accomodates all riders of all skills & pace,
NO ONE should ride outside of thier personal comfort zone, Nobody will get left behind or lost if the system is followed, sorry if this is 'teaching granny to suck eggs' but it is important.
Any questions (no matter how silly they seem) please just ask either on here or via PM if preferred.
Here's to another fantastic Thundercats weekend away on the bikes & socialising with great friends
Many thanks Nick

Re: Bishops Castle 5 2013 - Enter the Dragon
Cheers Nick! The system really does work well when everyone works together on this, very rare that anyone peels off in the wrong direction (unless your Rosco).
Really looking forward to this now, not long

Re: Bishops Castle 5 2013 - Enter the Dragon
Good to reiterate this Nick. The important point is that you won't get left behind, so there's no need to try and stick with the rider in front. Often the group gets strung out over a few miles but this doesn't matter; if you stick to the system then you will always end up in the right place.

Re: Bishops Castle 5 2013 - Enter the Dragon
You are ALWAYS responsible for your own behaviour/speed.
Ride like you do when you're on your own.
Concerning overtaking: don't follow the one in front of you blindly!
Only overtake when you are able to see that it's posible.
On long straights, it works best to ride in a so-called 'staggered formation'.
The one in front rides at the right side of the lane; the one behind him on the left side of the same lane, the one behind him on the right side, etc. That way everybody can see ahead.
But not in corners, you need to allow for vision through the corner.
So in corners, you don't keep a staggered formation: everybody chooses their own 'safe' line through the corner.
So keep in mind that the rider in front of you will start in the outside of the corner.

Re: Bishops Castle 5 2013 - Enter the Dragon
It was my first year last year (and first group ride) and the marker system works great, I just rode my own ride, didn't rush or ride out of my limits and really enjoyed my day. I also found I was way more confident by the end of the weekend and had met a great group of Friends, just can't wait for next Friday to come now!!

Definitely incorporate the drop off system and tail end Charlies for that staggered walk

Dirt Box?!
You know more than you're letting on, or has DBD just not have time to clean Switzerland off it?
Great to hear you can make it (unbelievable in fact!)
