Re: Speed test
A few years ago when mine had 20,000 miles less on the clock it managed 155 with a tail wind, but as someone pointed out it's probably more like 140 in real terms.
One thing that constantly going through your mind though (except hopefully your arse) is whether the tyres and running gear are in as good condition as you hope.
Another drawback to flying around at those speeds is how quickly you become acclimatised to it and how easily you can get caught out.
When 60 feels like 30 you can end up overshooting on the braking.

Re: Speed test
MSV run trackdays at Bedford Autodrome. It's not use for racing because of noise issues. It has probably the longest straight of any track in the UK, and you can probably get up pretty close to max. before having to brake.
I did a Bike Mag "Reclaim our Tacks" day there in October - road bikes only, no vans, tyre warmers etc. Very relaxed.
MSV also run Novice-only trackdays at most of their circuits.
More details here:

Re: Speed test
I've had mine on the track a few times and have managed to get her up to 190kph(118mph) on the back straight....don't ask how long it is (the entire track is only 4.1 km's...2.56miles). I have 43K miles on the clock and she still goes strong. On the open road I got her up to 250kph(155mph)...just layed flat and tucked in tight behind the screen. FYI...the road was wide freeway in the middle of nowhere in the early hours of a Sunday morning with very few cars on the road...before everyone starts to call me stupid for doing a top end run on a public road. I know that I was doing 155 cause I had a bud on his 2003 R1 tucked in right behind me and that's what his digital speedo was reading. My clocks actually stop at 130 then it appers to just get stuck there! Top end runs are fun if done responsibly....but basically you just looking 1-2 miles ahead of you cause anything closer than that is in the past and holding on tight praying some dumbass cow(Yes the real BOVINE kind) does not decide to cross the road!

Well there goes the entertainment, shot to shit. :(
Aye, I was going to sit down on the b7078 with my catchers mitt and snag me some spares.

Was going to say the danger of speed there is the spurious 'furniture' on the road; animals, people and stationary vehicles. Lost a friend who hit a bovine :( Of course Traffic Inspector Koekemoer and associates could well be hiding behind their portable trees and shrubs (or don't they do that any more?)
I'd think a blast could be possible through the Karoo.
Which track did you go on, Killarney?

YUP....KILL-ARNEY...ha ha. Yes they do sit behind their trees all the time but it does not help them when guys are riding with no plates or their numbers covered. Not saying that is what I was doing. I've grown past that now. U learn that the real fun is in the twistees......Rooi Els, Hells Hoegte, Camps Bay drive down to Hout Bay, Franschoek.
I stopped doing the N1 pass to Worcester as too many trucks use that pass...the road has become uneven cause of the wear and lots of oil and diesel on the road. Also not nice coming out of a bend only to find an 18 wheeler using bothing lanes to take the turn in front of you!!!!
