Re: Cat top speed???
Using the GPS app on my phone i topped out a 152MPH- but i was proper going at it, feet on the pillion pegs, properly ducked down and only about 2 days after a big engine service. I dont know what the official top speed is, i suspect around 155MPH.

Re: Cat top speed???
Just over 150 on the dial with a tail wind here.
Didn't get a chance to use mine much last year but it was still pulling at 145 uphill on the way back from Inverness when I had to use it for work after I forgot to replace the brake pads on the car (down to the metal on a Saturday night).
Not bad for a 12 year old bike with 39K on the clock and its last major service 5 years ago.
-edit- Funny you should mention your feet on the pillion pegs Alyr.
I saw a bloke on the road to Inverurie last month doing that on a CBR600.
....utterly, utterly pointless.
He never went above 80 to start with, but if he'd had to hit the anchors in a hurry he'd have been f*cked. Since there's no way he'd have been able to support his weight through his arms and would've gone straight through the screen.

Re: Cat top speed???
Very safe and commendable
I have no idea how it would affect drag tbh, but it doesn't feel like there's much with my legs on the pegs, most of it seems to be on my head, shoulders and arms.
I suppose one way to test it would be to try both positions when it's pissing down, since the bits that get wet are in the air stream.

Re: Cat top speed???
I've only ever been anywhere near flat out at Waddington track day and even then I was too scared to take my eyes off the track in front to look at the speedo!
You have to have a whole load of faith in your bikes mechanical bits to ride that fast!

Re: Cat top speed???
I topped mine out at Waddington, the speedo read just over 155 but we know the speedo can be inaccurate.
Booked in Waddington for May 11th this year and I think Peter is but we will both be running Ninja's this time.

Re: Cat top speed???
I have seen 155 on my sat nav, the cat did it so easily. Problem is once you have done it once you only want to go faster! Bring on the zxr1400

Self preservation is a pretty strong trait, but is no good without common sense (like much else ).Bikerchris wrote:also not looking to kill myself.
Glad to see you seem to have both in proportion.

Re: Cat top speed???
I tried my best on the autobahn in Germany.
Similar name if you try it and get caught in this country I suspect.
It was just painful. Sore head and neck. Had the top box and tank bag on so couldn't hide behind the screen.
I soon settled back to 80-100 and that was just right.
I think I managed about 135 - Sat nav. I did change my sprockets for better acceleration at the expense of top speed.
Just felt like a painful way of using up your fuel quickly.
Got to about 110 really quickly and then endured the last bit.
Not for me.
For me the best roads are ones you'd struggle to break the speed limit on.....not due to snow and ice though.

Re: Cat top speed???
Agree Ross.
Two up with a top box, left lane of the Autobahn flat out - think the speedo was showing around 150 MPH, the Satnav recorded lower.
Wasn't enjoyable, made even worse by me having to move over for a VW Lupo.
Seeing the price of petrol in Germany is slightly higher than in my part of the UK at the moment makes for another reason to stay in center or right hand lanes of said motorway (unless a decent alternate can't be found).

It depends what you read Tel, out of the box anywhere between 145 and 160 but I suspect they'll lose a bit after a few years, maybe 135 - 140.
Oh and Tom I'm not "insinuating" I did it, I read it!!
