Re: Speed test
Tomas - do you really have to?
Roads up here are manky at the moment, why not take it on trust that it will do 140, book a trackday and try it there?
Cheers

The difference might be other road users, pedestrians, children, lamp posts, kerbs etc, etc, etc

Re: Speed test
I'm not going to be polite or beat about the bush here.
You're an idiot if you really are going to try this. You need to drop the keys down the nearest drain and walk away from biking. Firstly, to think that it is a good idea to try a top speed run in the current Arctic conditions, on a public road, is one kind of stupid, but to then post about it on a public forum is a really special kind of lunacy.
Please, nobody encourage him.

Re: Speed test
We are not insulting you at all just questioning your intelligence did you not see that link I posted up. Why don't you do yourself and other road users a favour and take the advice you are given. We would be doing you no favours at all if we gave you the misguided advice of saying it was a good idea. It's not, don't do it - we're not interested, its not big and its certainly not clever - save it for another time and place or a different forum.
I'm sorry if you feel we are insulting you its not our intention and you're big enough to make your own mistakes and decisions but this is idiotic.

tomcom wrote:you dont have to insult me
Yes I do, because you need to get the message and polite suggestion doesn't work. Which would you rather I wrote:
1. "You're an idiot, grow up"
or
2. "What an idiot he was, my condolences to his family"
Take your need for adrenaline and speed to an appropriate place. A track, a drag strip or even an unlimited German autobahn (where everyone is prepared for it). Don't do it on a winter UK road.
I really don't want to read about another forum member who is no longer with us - we've been there before and it affects us all to a greater or lesser degree.
I am not usually a blunt person, but sometimes you need the right tool to achieve the objective at hand. At least I know you understood me!

Re: Speed test
Grow up Tom I'm not even gracing this post with any further discussion as you clearly don't have the smallest atom of commonsense in you - you need to grow up or, as has already been suggested, throw your keys away.

Re: Speed test
Is it a public road? If so what you are attempting is illegal. If not you will need permission from the owner.
You have no idea how safe it is or not. How do you know if someone hasn't had a similar idea and practising their reversing.
What does your wife think of this? I suppose you haven't told her. What if something did happen, what happens to her and your child?
There is a time and a place for most things, going fast is done on a track. There is a huge difference coming off on a track and on a road.

Even if you just harm yourself, the police, ambulance and fire services will likely come to help you, risking themselves and other road users as they speed to your aid. You may even need a helicopter. Then you'll need a hospital bed, possibly emergency surgery and a period of recovery. This all costs me money and your family and friends distress and worry.
Or you may need to spend time going through the courts and maybe into prison - this all costs me money too and upsets those around you.
Do you see what we're saying here - your need for speed has wide-ranging consequences that you can not control nor avoid. At the very least, do your best to reduce and mitigate the risks.

Re: Speed test
It goes fast enough Tomcom.
I had the 'pleasure' of getting 130+ mph while in Germany on the autobahn. Seriously I was in Germany. DBD and I were there and he wanted his speedo to read 999.
It was far from pleasure though.
Sore head, sore neck, sore back. Major vibrations.
And then a Porsche flew past me!!!!
Can't say I'd recommend it.
I understand a rough rule of thumb is 100mph + or 30mph more than the limit in this country will give you an automatic ban although you can still be banned for less speed and other circumstances I would imagine.
Much more fun going much slower round the twisties and keeping your license.

Re: Speed test
I've also tried it on the Autobahn, 2 up. As Rosco said, not pleasant at all.
To add to all of that I had to move over so a Lupo could overtake That little car must have been doing about 150mp/h.
Was it fun? No, would I do it again? Nope
Glad you have had a rethink.

Re: Speed test
If your intention is setting out to get your name in the paper , either as a statistic or a criminal either way giving the already tarnished pastime of motorcycling a bad name, congratulations.
I for one, as a new rider don't want to or need to hear about this lunacy, do a track day if you feel the need for speed or take Rosco's advice and chill out round some nice twisties, if you ride em right you will feel the adrenaline rush you crave so much, being scraped up off a pavement isn't a rush o any kind for you or the family you will leave behind!!
