I for one, as a new rider don't want to or need to hear about this lunacy, do a track day if you feel the need for speed or take Rosco's advice and chill out round some nice twisties, if you ride em right you will feel the adrenaline rush you crave so much, being scraped up off a pavement isn't a rush o any kind for you or the family you will leave behind!!
Rant over
Couldn't of put it better myself! Well said

Re: Speed test
Yes I did a speed run on the autobahn. As Rosco said it was scarey an bloody painful. I wouldn't dream of doing it again to be honest. It was legal of course tho but I did give myself a hard time about it afterwards thinking what if... I couldn't max out the 999 and when you have Porsches and the like sitting up your arse waiting to get past when your at 155 mph it ain't funny. I became very scared very quickly and felt rather foolish after it. Go do a track day if you want a speed thrill. I can only echo all of the comments above mate. Don't take the comments to heart we all just want you to ride safe, enjoy biking and go home you your family.

what a different if i crash there or there?
I never give up. i love adrenaline
Tom,
from my experience at RAF Waddington, you can get the needle to read just over 150 but the higher you the less accurate it is.
tomcom wrote:

The is a hell of a lot of difference!!!
On the Track:
- There are marshals to get to you straight away
- The track is smoother, grippier, no pot holes or bad edges.
- There are paramedics on standby
- At Waddington we even had a Medical Chopper.
- You are all going the same way
[*]You have safer edges - No ditches, trees, barbed wire fences etc.
On the road, if you bin it badly how long do you think it will be before someone finds you and then how long before an ambulance gets to you - if it's worth them coming out to you by then?
Seriously, Think about it mate - save it for the Track. If you have 1 or 2 piece leathers the track day at Waddington was only £60.00 entry. I believe a lot of RAF Airfield run these, look up some local ones, if they don't they may be able to tell you you closest one.
John.

Re: Speed test
Well I must say is that my faith in motorcycle forums has been restored by the replys to this post and I agree with all the replys. The only thing I'll add is that all bikes 600cc and above will exceed 130mph plus but as for the rider, very few have the skill to, and thats the BIG, BIG PROBLEM !!(and no, I do'nt have the skills for that type of speeds)

Re: Speed test
i just want to feel high speed on a motorbike
But there's a time and place Tom, and a public highway isnt either.
People like you give bikers a bad name but people like you also keep me in a job.
I'd happily spend hours picking gravel out of your flesh while you scream but I'm sure you'd rather I didn't.

One of the traffic insps we used to have used to say that Lincs Force had an unofficial RTC code they used for certain RTCs they used to use ROOT which stood for Ran Out Of Talent - he's a biker too!

I remember that and a few more 'terms' that were used in the emergency services, FUBAR (fooked up beyond all recognition) & FUBAR BUNDY (fooked up beyond all recognition but unfortunately not dead yet ) and NFL (normal for Lincolnshire). This was from a time pre-political correctness tho!
Re: Speed test

Re: Speed test
A trackday is definitely the place for fun Tom, I had an indicated 158ish on mine but was more than likely nearer 140 in reality.
Even minimizing the risks I was still riding with two fingers over the clutch lever in anticipation of a mechanical failure, Saying that I doubt my reactions would be fast enough to stop a disaster

I think it was more likely a case of over exuberance at the excitement of getting his new bike - the naivety of yoof - i think we've convinced him it wasn't the good idea it sounded like at the time it sprang into his head.

Re: Speed test
A few years ago when mine had 20,000 miles less on the clock it managed 155 with a tail wind, but as someone pointed out it's probably more like 140 in real terms.
One thing that constantly going through your mind though (except hopefully your arse) is whether the tyres and running gear are in as good condition as you hope.
Another drawback to flying around at those speeds is how quickly you become acclimatised to it and how easily you can get caught out.
When 60 feels like 30 you can end up overshooting on the braking.
