My winter project.
Hi I'm not sure if this is the place to do this but here goes. I bought my cat about a week ago and have enjoyed getting to grips with it
I'm going to hang on until the weather gets too bad to ride with confidence and then start the job of bringing the bike back to tip top condition :whoop:
I'll put some pics up once I have worked out how to get them off my phone
So keep checking and please comment if you think I'm going wrong anywhere.

Re: My winter project.
Looking forward to following your progress. Are you going as far back to engine out and bare frame??

I'll see how it looks when I start to clean it up. If that's what it needs that's what I'll do :evil2:
Re: My winter project.
Nice one. I'm thinking of doing something similar in the new year.

A few pics of how it is now.
I have now worked out how to get pics up so here are a few of it as it stands now. It's a bit tatty but I'm now starting to really like the orange so my original plans may change. I'm collecting lots of bits ready for the winter so watch this space and I'll update it as and when things start to change.

Doesn't look too tatty at all Dave, in fact may have to give mine a really good clean having seen these pics.

Well so far I have bought for fitting.
1. R&G race bar ends.
2. New nose cone.
3. ebc front and rear sintered pads.
4. goodrich braided hoses front/back
5. new front mud gaurd
6. smoked double screen.
7. pro bolt set (for everything)
8. fork protectors made to fit ;0)
9. carbon style levers.
10. new clutch and throttle cables.
11. front discs wavey
12. rear disc wavey
13. lowering dog bones (I'm a short fecker)
That's it for now but the bike will be stripped and paited too over the winter. (I have no intention of selling it so will make it right)
I will add pictures as things get done.

Re: My winter project.
Wow Dave. That's quite a list!
Sounds like you're going to be doing a proper job. I know when I had to have mine repainted (haven't got time to explain why ) the orange paint colour was no longer available. KTM orange was the nearest - if a bit brighter than the original. You probably know this already in your line of work, but I thought I'd mention it. Do like the orange/silver/black colours.
Look forward to seeing the pictures.
Chris

Re: My winter project.
Colour is going to be black/grey/silver. or bronze, can't decide.. It will all come to light when I start it. But if I don't like it I can change at no real cost as it's what I do.. that is why I'm buying spare everything so I can play.. I love the orange now but it's not really me.. I'm like the wind though I will change my mind like it all the time :0(

Ok this is going to be a long one..
Right...Things have moved forward quite alot I'll let the pictures do the talking.
Got it on the stands
Then just started taking it apart.
Got most of the bits to the workshop and started getting them ready.
Polished the tinted screen I got from ebay to a glass finish and started painting some bits to test the colour.
I then came home and carried on taking it apart, I should have the engine out very soon.
Everything I touch on it breaks so will be renewing a lot more than first thought so parts etc.. may change depending on budget. I must keep reminding myself it's an old bike

Couple more progress pics.
I think I only have the chain, clutch and throttle cables to disconnect and then I'll drop the engine out.
I have removed the wiring loom completely as I am now having the frame re-powder coated. I have one quick question, should I keep the swinging arm
the same colour as the frame?
Anyone getting fed up yet

Re: My winter project.
Very Impressed. I'd barely consider disassembling the pink bike in the background.
Keep up the good work.
Once you've finished practising I'll lend you mine to fix up

It's not blue
supraloopy wrote:I have one quick question, should I keep the swinging arm

I think the frame, swing arm and fork lowers should be the same colour.
I got someone to do some photoshopping for me here the pics, ignore the colours but it might help with the frames.
Original bike:
Other colour schemes.
Black
Pink
And the two alternate blues that I want to do, I think I prefer No 2:
No 1
No 2

I've changed my mind ..... all pink.
Maybe get those pink and silver streamer things for the bar ends too.
It will go well with the other bike in the picture.

Re: My winter project.
Loving the tassels ;0) I don't mind if the thread goes off on a tangent as long it keeps people chatting and interested :0) As for the frame and swing arm I'll keep them silver I think. Ohh does anyone know where to get the yzf decals from? or is it yamaha only and bend over time??
I'm pleased you all like my efforts and any niggles or tricks I learn I'll post them up to ;0)
Dave.
