Eifel Trip
First topic message reminder :
The Eifel is a beautiful semi mountainous region of Germany close to the Mosel and also has the Nürburgring in there. It's a national park much akin to Snowdonia or the Cairngorms. (please have a look at the link).
It's about a 3 or 4 hour journey from Calais to get to.
The German Site is holding their yearly meeting (much like our "Something for the Weekend" meets), at that location next year (2010) from May 13th to 16th (thurs through Sun).
Remember we had 10 of the Dutch riders come over to one of our Welshpool meets and what an international flavour that gave the whole weekend too.
Is it time for us to spread our wings as a group and return the trip ? . . . . albeit to Germany and not Holland.
Here is the LINK to the accommodation at the Hotel-Forsthaus (Hotel-Forest house).
This is a popular meeting on the German site so you'll need to be quick to get in on the group accomm or you may finish up looking for near by alternative guest houses. PM me asap if you intend to go on this trip so I can pass on your details to the event oganiser in Germany.
This event is the weekend before our Bishops Castle II so there's a slight clash . . . . sorry to ask for the choose between them both, but perhaps you could do both .
Who - How many are interested in making the trip to The Eifel and seeing what the other side has to offer ?
Please use this board to ask any questions and discuss the options and opinions . . . . .Cheers
Use the Sign Up board to , well sign up

Before anyone else tells not to come, you should know that you don't need to worry: Toni is not as ugly as it seems!! No reason to cancel the meeting

Ok - we will wait and see.
But your video was great - so doesn't matter if there isn't a second cam bike

Re: Eifel Trip
Just some news...
First of all i know that there are still missing beds for two members. But i got a PM from the main organiser of our meeting(Tschnitzel).
He assured me of getting enough beds for everyone.
So don't worry and be patient - after the 21th of January Tschnitzel will reserve the missing beds and i will get the information about the paying details.
Next topic…(I hope it is not too difficult to understand )
Ross asked me about the possible consequences of speeding in Germany and what might happen to British Riders when getting caught by the police.
Ross - i answer in the thread because the information might be interesting for everyone coming from Britain to Germany
This information comes from an expert of traffic affairs (means: reliable and not from me ):
In Germany we distinguish between speeding in and outside the town.
The regular fine (for Germans) will be as follows:
There is no enforcement treaty in traffic affairs between Germany and the United Kingdom.
If you get caught by a speed camera nothing will happen – you will never get a letter from Germany
When you get caught by the police you have to pay the regular fine plus a bail amounting to the regular fine (so you have to pay the fine twice!).
You won’t get a ban for speeding, neither in Germany nor in Britain!
The only way to get your driving licence revoked is a criminal offence (riding drunk or something like that).
By the way - in the case of being caught by the police there is a good possibility to pay nothing  Don't have much money or any debit or credit card in your wallet - so maybe you just get a verbal warning
Surely it depends on the kind of speeding - the higher the speed the more realistic it is that the police will try to get money from you - even with things like looking for money in your clothes, taking you to your hotel room to look for money or something like that
The main thing is to stay friendly: We reap what we sow. (i like sayings )
And the easiest way is not being caught
I hope it was comprehensible
If there are still questions - ask
Looking forward to the meeting

Re: Eifel Trip
Right, looking into this further, the best ferry for me is Dover-Calais (or Dunkirk). The best deal at the moment is P&O at £42.50 but the Eurotunnel price of £45 is surprisingly and temptingly similar. What I need to know though is more idea of times and if anyone else will be taking the English Channel route and fancies hooking up? Or maybe we can meet at a convenient aire on t'other side? I've driven from Calias to Bonn before (which is in the same sort of area) and it's a pretty easy route as I recall (although lots of autoroute/autobaan/autobahn).

If it's still snowing in May we're in trouble
Lots and lots of booked. As we have The Sun Queen with us

Re: Eifel Trip
Well,
Plans have been firmed up both in Germany & here in UK for this trip.
We (the UK riders) have now all paid our deposits for our beds and they have been allocated by our hosts. Over-night accommodation sorted for the 12th on the UK side and we have our channel crossings all booked and routes from our port(s) of entry to the Eifel planned.
A note on the deposits paid: As the hosts have now passed on the booking deposit to the hotel . . . . anyone now no longer able to attend will not get a refund.
However, should you be unfortunate and find yourself in this position, you could 'sell' your spot on the trip to a replacement if there is someone wanting to take your place.
If this becomes the case, please let me know via PM so I can inform our host organiser of the (or any) changes.
Now . . . . We have had quite a few new members to the site recently and perhaps you may be interested in doing this trip too.
You would be most welcome to do so. Unfortunately any takers from now on would either have to camp at the Eifel destination,(There is plenty of room for camping in the grounds of the hotel using the hotel facillities). OR you would need to find your own hotel/guesthouse/B&B accomm near by to the Forest House Hotel.
So in short:
Outline of Event
13-05-10 Travel to and arrival at Eifel
14-05-10 Tour 1 North of the Nürburgring
15-05-10 Tour 2 South of the Nürburgring (Mosel & Bitburg)
16-05-10 The Journey Home.
There are 49 riders (including us) registered for this meeting.
Footnote: Unfortunately a go around the infamous Nürburgring will not be possible on this trip due to a 24hr (Le Mans type) race taking place there over the same weekend. :(
Cheers

- Our hosts have finalised their plans for the meeting (Treff).
The UK riders have done likewise.
If you have to drop out now you will loose your deposit.
Although accommodation and planning has been finalised, there is still an invite to attend (with the above proviso on accomm).
Anyone else wishing to come please get in touch either via this thread or PM me.

But if you like to (and I think some german guys also like to) we could visit the track and watch a part of the trainings, if there are some in the evenings... This could also be fun
