Eifel trip journey planning
I asked in the longer thread but have had no response so I thought I'd start a fresh topic and see what comes back.
Does anyone have any ideas regarding plans for ferries/crossing, dates, times etc and how that will fit with dates/times for the German meet itself? Any target arrival and departure timing? I'm keen to get my crossing booked while prices are still good.
Also, will anyone be going across the channel rather than the North Sea? I will but then I'm daaan saaaaf, innit.

Re: Eifel trip journey planning
Sorry Paul,
My laziness.
I'm looking to go across the channel too. Having looked at ferry and chunnel prices , the tunnel has some reasonable deals for bikes now too which compare favourably with the ferry. Tunnel bein quicker and a bit more covienient I'm tempted that way.
As you suggest it's better done sooner rather than later while these deals are still about. I'm waiting though til the final two beds have been allocated to us as they are going to sgtbash (Trev) + 1 who as you know is from this area as well.
If we firm up our plans soon that could mean four bikes together on the mainland Europe side for the journey down to the Eifel.
Ross and Dave are going Hull - Rotterdam and taking a different route to ours to get to the Accommodation I believe from a chat me and Ross had just after the holiday season.
I'm looking to going over on the morning of the 13th fairly early. I guesstimate the journey time to the accommodation in the Eifel to be in the region of 4 hours (ish) from Calais. As it's not to far off the A61 in Germany heading south of Aachen it should be an easy task to find (famous last words ) when we get there mid afternoon early evening.
For the return journey Trev + 1 and you need to make your own plans as me n Bea plan to stop on in the Eifel for a couple of days after the meeting.
Hope that helps you a bit.
I'll Txt you before I make any firm bookings so we can better co-ordinate train/ferry crossing times.
Cheers

Re: Eifel trip journey planning
Nice one Tel, cheers. Fits pretty much what I thought.
For the return I really only need to work out how long it'll take from the accommodation to Calais and therefore which ferry/train to book.
I must admit I am very tempted by the train, for the reasons you mention (good price, convenient, quick etc). As a bonus it's also slightly easier and closer to get to the Folkestone rail terminal than the Dover ferry terminals.

Re: Eifel trip journey planning
Hi All,
Well all deposits paid and forwarded to the club meet account.
Now we have our beds, it's time to look to booking channel crossings.
Ross and Dave, I know you are traveling a different route and ferry crossings to us southerners. Hope your plans are going well, and we'll see you at the accomm in the Eifel. No doubt on the traveling day we'll be in contact via txt.
To the southern group, please keep an eye on your PM's as I'll be sending details of searches for channel crossings as well as proposed routes on the other side to the club meeting point.
Just in case anyone hasn't seen the accomm, here's the link to the HOTEL. It's in German of course, but you can look at the pictires of the rooms, resturaunt and the hotel in general.
WooHoo, .. .. .. We're on our way

Re: Eifel trip journey planning
Right, I'm booked on the Eurotunnel.
Out: Thu 13th May, 08:20 depart
Rtn: Sun 16th May, 15:20 depart
Will need to find a bed Weds night before getting to the train. I booked a late-ish return to allow for a lie-in and to give options for the ride home (scenic route, running late, stopping for lunch, whatever!).
Also, any recommendations for European recovery cover? Never had it for the bike, so not sure where to look.

Will be booking the same out bound train as you tomorrow.weasley wrote:Right, I'm booked on the Eurotunnel.

I'll be booking in HERE to over night on the Weds (should have spaces this far in advance).
Good place to stop and has a good boozer down the road that serves a wicked mixed grill in it's dining room, we've used it for the over night before all our European trips . It's 5 mins from the tunnel start point.
