Eifel Trip
A Trip To The Vulkaneifel for the German Thundercat Meeting
The Eifel is a beautiful semi mountainous region of Germany close to the Mosel and also has the Nürburgring in there. It's a national park much akin to Snowdonia or the Cairngorms. (please have a look at the link).
It's about a 3 or 4 hour journey from Calais to get to.
The German Site is holding their yearly meeting (much like our "Something for the Weekend" meets), at that location next year (2010) from May 13th to 16th (thurs through Sun).
Remember we had 10 of the Dutch riders come over to one of our Welshpool meets and what an international flavour that gave the whole weekend too.
Is it time for us to spread our wings as a group and return the trip ? . . . . albeit to Germany and not Holland.
Here is the LINK to the accommodation at the Hotel-Forsthaus (Hotel-Forest house).
This is a popular meeting on the German site so you'll need to be quick to get in on the group accomm or you may finish up looking for near by alternative guest houses. PM me asap if you intend to go on this trip so I can pass on your details to the event oganiser in Germany.
This event is the weekend before our Bishops Castle II so there's a slight clash . . . . sorry to ask for the choose between them both, but perhaps you could do both .
Who - How many are interested in making the trip to The Eifel and seeing what the other side has to offer ?
Please use this board to ask any questions and discuss the options and opinions . . . . .Cheers
Use the Sign Up board to , well sign up

Re: Eifel Trip
There are now 40 people (bikes) on this meeting . . . . including 4 bikes (5 people), from this site. I did say this is a popular once a year meeting for the German Thundercat site.
Unlike us they only do one a year and not spread it out over the four or five a year we do.
Accommodation is becoming an issue. If you are thinking of going on this trip, may I be so bold as to suggest you make a desission soon to secure a bed.
all the best

Deposit Time
Hi folks,
Well it's deposit time for your bed. Well early I know but that's how they're oganising it, and as bed's are at such a premium we need to get in quick. Otherwise it'll be camping for you laddie.
I've sent each of the signed up members a PM with further payment details
Cheers

EEUUUUUWW!!!
I've contacted Toni and await orders.
On another matter, do we have an idea of the.... ahem.... spiritedness of the ride-out? I can keep up with a typical UK Thundercat ride-out but then we're a fairly sedentary bunch. If it's going to be all knee-down and throttle to the stop I might be out of my depth.

I've sent Toni a PM too.
I can paypal but need to know how much to send (i've never send cash into another currency before......I guess there will be exchange fluctuations and paypal will take their cut too)
If someone can let me know how much to send I'll pay my bit.....Are you going first Tel to test the water?
Err on the side of paying Toni a tip for sorting this out for us.
P.s. I might be out my depth too .... but my main concern is .... how big are the German rabbits?
I'm going to practice spinning my bike around on the stand though
Cheers

Re: Eifel Trip
1. The ME109 Rabit is on average roughly the same size as the Supermarine Spitbunny , it just has a yellow nose and different tailplane markings and has a wider turn ratio than the spitbunny.SteveCat wrote:0ldcat wrote:Well it's deposit time for your bed....

2. The spiritedness of the ride I can't attest to but like you all . . . I hope not to highly strung . They do have a tail-end-charlie, ... not sure if they do the drop off marker system though.
3. As far as payment goes. I'm sure Toni will point you all in the right direction. Ross you can pay in € on paypal and the exchange rate is automaticly done,
I think Paypal take 1.50€ as their "CUT" so if you make your payment 31.50€ and a couple of beers when you meet Toni that should cover it. But again Toni will point you right. Me & Steve 61.50€ as we're two up.

Re: Eifel Trip
Hey Folks,
1. The payment is just necessary for the first 35 Persons in the list! From you it is just Olcat + Wife and Rosco! why are we doing this? At the moment we have 35 beds fixed! Our organizer who is planning the tours is organizing more beds and he is confident to get enough beds for all the round about 50 persons at the moment... When we have more beds fixed, we will start a second request to remit money! I will post here! Maybe toni says also a few words to this point...
2. You don't need to worry about how the german drive The daily tours on Friday and Saturday (each ca. 300 km) will be in a tempo, that everyone should be able to go!
3. We have one rider at the end of the column! He stays ALLWAYS on the end! For the reason we don't get divided by traffic, we use "block bikes", which means that a few bikes (planned 3) block intersections, so we can pass it in the whole group. After blocking they will overtake the whole column and move behind the tour leader! The "normal" column drives in a row without overtaking (important, because the block bikes are have to be quiet fast and don't think you could overtake)!! So you should use your mirrors to make it more easy for the "block bikes" to overtake! There will also be a cam-bike which is filming :-)!
If we are divided by a traffic light, you have to use your signal-horn! The group who crossed the traffic light in time will wait for you at a fitting point. Don't worry about getting lost, because we have our hoover at the ende! you won't get lost
For the one of you who wants to drive faster there will be the evenings (of course before it gets dark)! In the last years the members who can't get enough, started their own small day-end tour after the daily-tour. Of course you are free to do this , but you should talk to the members before, to avoid joining a group which is called "speeder tour". This one you should only join, if you are fast and also secure in driving a motorcycle! This is definitely nothing for a beginner!
One last word at the end to the tours: You are responsible for yourself! If you don't want to overtake a car, it is YOUR decision! Nobody will force you to do something you don't want to do! You should also feel free to say if something isn't going right for you, for example the column is to fast for you! In that case we will of course reduce the speed!
But as I allready said: Don't worry! We had no problems in the past and I'm sure we won't have problems 2010!
4. German rabbits? Why are you worried about our rabbits?????
5. If you have any questions please ask here and not in a personal message, so I don't have to answer the same question several times

At that "after-show-trip" you maybe feel homelike - mostly drive on the left side of the road
By the way i don't do such a trip after the tour because for me it is too dangerous
After the official tour i want to and not
weasley wrote:If it's going to be all knee-down and throttle to the stop I might be out of my depth.
That won't happen! Maybe there will be passages where someone drives a little bit faster
But everybody drives his own speed, so don't worry.
At the meeting this year there was a member who had his driving licence since 4 weeks - he didn't get lost or felt forced to drive faster
Rosco wrote:but my main concern is .... how big are the German rabbits?
I don't think german rabbits are bigger than rabbits in britain
Don't be afraid of the rabbits - be afraid of the "bullen" (i think you call it rozzer) with their cameras - say "cheese"

Bears? "Bären" No, we just have "Waschbären" (racoons)

I don't think so - just some mammoths and some kind of dinosaur
Re: Eifel Trip

Scottish brothers are welcome too Even with a Duc

At the moment just Bea, Tel and Ross secured accommodation. You are the next on the sign-up list. But as soon as i know details i will send you a pm.
But please be patient - you don't have to put a tent onto your Duc.

Re: Eifel Trip
Ok Toni, cheers
I'm considering changing the Duc, or if the missus will let me, buy a "sensible" bike for those long trips...and keep the Duc.
Decisions decisions....
