Hi All

Dirt Bike Dave has bullied me into putting up the dates and details for Big Mac 2013 and here they are

Venue - OBAN - West coast of Scotland

Accommodation

As with previous years we are looking to book hostel accommodation and SYHA Oban is one of the best Hostels SYHA has to offer.

Unfortunately due to the time of year we want to book we need to get our skates on to get this booked up.

Accommodation is likely to be dorms (bunk beds) for 4, 6 or 8.

We've worked out it will be £80 for hostel stay for 3 nights
This will include cost of (self-catering) breakfast and whatever is left over will contribute to evening meals / drinks etc.

What I need from you

Do you wanna go?
Do you wanna stay in the hostel - Friday 2nd August for 3 nights?

For folks wishing to stay in the hostel - looking for commitment by the end of this month (Feb 2013) and £20 deposit paid 1st week in March.

A further £20 deposit 1st June and the final payment (£40) 1st July.

Staying at the hostel isn't compulsory and folks are free to sign up for the rideout and sort their own accommodation.

Subject to availability & numbers and we may be able to add people at a later date but the earlier you can commit the better as there are limited spaces.

I'll set up a Master List soon.

Dirt Bike Dave is doing a recce soon so will leave the finer details in his culpable capable hands.

I'd be up for that assuming we get there in time if be happy to book in advance, if there's enough of us could phone up and see if we can get a group discount?

I think we can do the tour for free. Everyone going would need to sign up to a friend of the malts site though.

Will investigate and come back to you.

FYI - Bedding IS supplied at the hostel.
Towels are available for hire so bring your own if you want to.

I'm actually up this neck of the woods in September and the Distillery is part of our plans so I'll give it a miss this time round.
The guy who organised us (for our September visit) told us to sign up to "Friends of the Malts" - http://www.malts.com/index.php/en_gb/Visiting-our-distilleries/Planning-your-visit.  Think we need to bring ID with us on the day.

Chris - Will you be able to check this out with Oban Distillery later today and find out if this "Friends" thing is worth doing please?

Right, looked into a visit to the distillery this afternoon.

The 'Friends of Malt' deal looks good but we don't have enough time. An ID card must be shown before the tour and these get sent out to you, I don't think they would arrive in time.

Tours need to be prebooked and the last 'exclusive tour' is at 16:00, too early for me. There is another tour at 18:15 which costs £7.50, think I'm just going to play it by ear and see what time we get to the digs each day before making a decision.

If that £7.50 includes a large Dram i may pop along myself
