Big Mac 2013 - OBAN - SHOPPING LIST
Hi All
Looking to get a note of things that folks want on the shopping list please.
I've got Steve, Paul and Karina staying with me on Thursday night and their job on that night is to taste test the Mexican grub I've got planned for Saturday and then we'll sort out a click and collect for the local Tesco or might just need to shop it and taxi it back as they don't deliver to the Youth Hostel.
So - I'll be basing my shopping loosely on what was bought for Wee Mac.
Any special requests for food?
More importantly any special requests for drinks.
Please only suggest stuff if you are going to eat or drink it (Still got that un-opened Golden Grahams waiting for you at Wee Mac John)
Breakfasts (Think we've got all bases covered here from previous ones) - but open to suggestions
Friday Night - Going to get Pizzas and Wedges/Chips and will put them on when folks arrive / arrive late.
Saturday Night - Hopefully a Mexican Mash-up .... subject to taste testing. (Fiona has kindly offered to treat us to Banofffffiiii-good-pie for desert)
Sunday - Possibly Eating out and Pub Crawl (I've asked Fiona to look into this further)
FYI - Don't think there is a freezer.
Drinks
Will be getting
Orange Juice, Tea, Coffee and milk - Breakfasts
Lager (any special requests?)
Cider (any special requests?)
Red Wine (any special requests?)
any special requests?
Cheers
Rosco

Think two Thundercats can do as good as a taxi, we can raise eyebrows again at the sight of the beer strapped onto the back seats
I'll get some Diet Coke/Pepsi, will be bringing my rust inhibitor with me

Aye, I'll have some luggage capacity too. I'm bringing my FJR!
P.S. Proper beer, none of that fizzy yellow water.

Ffs. Atholl is not the luckiest!!! At Ullapool BM his clutch failed on his 1098. Rode it all the way back to Aberdeen clutch less including fuel stops!! Then jumped on his multistrada and fell off it en route back to Ullapool!!!

Re: Big Mac 2013 - OBAN - SHOPPING LIST
Hope Atholl is ok.... what a nightmare!
Right, done a bit of checking into the 'Pub Crawl' as previous mentioned.... and... it doesn't exist anymore Apparently it was an old scheme and the internet page is just a legacy from then. However..... , I am reliably informed that we are more than welcome to pub crawl round Oban on our own ..... jolly decent of them So, it looks like we can just hit the nearest pub to the Hostel... then work our way round from there.
Will have a look tonight and see if any pubs in particular have a good review, and report back. Still in the process of trying to book an indian for the Sunday night.... reckoning that the closest to the Hostel is the best place to try first as I'm not sure that some of the places are big enough to hold all of us.
Update soon....

My Dad goes to Oban quite a lot sailing, he recommended a seafood restaurant called waypoint in the marina which you get to from the north pier. Another option?

Re: Big Mac 2013 - OBAN - SHOPPING LIST
Thanks Chris.... I had a quick look... and it looks LOVELY....not sure whether the prices might put people off.... here is a link to the sample menus....
Sample Menus link
There is a small ferry (12 people at a time) to get to the island that it is on (7 mins)... and this runs at 10mins past the hour (though if there are more than 12 people they will run additional ferries to get everyone there.
The indian will probably be cheaper, but may not be as nice... what does everyone think.... and speak up, cos there isn't long to get anything booked

Bloody hell about Atholl! But to be fair I will be surprised if he doesn't show up, the lad seems hard as nails... Preference for lager for me please, as last time I request Tennants in the yellow can, can't get it down here so my trip up north just wouldn't be the same without it...!

Indian is good for me, real beer is preferred though if lagers going tennats is fine or some Heineken or similar if there's offers and people to drink it , which I am sure there will be!

Re: Big Mac 2013 - OBAN - SHOPPING LIST
Righty, Indian restaurant is booked for 7.30pm on Sunday night for 16 hungry bikers.... have booked the Taj Mahal (amazing.... looks just like the real thing! ) as it was the closest to the Hostel and all the choices of Indian restaurant were pretty much given the same sort of reviews.
Sorry Chris, the fish restaurant looked lovely... in fact Jon and I reckon we might organise another trip just to try it out at some point, so thanks for mentioning it

No problem Fi, thanks for organising. I'm sure I'll manage to satisfy my craving for crustaceans at some point over the weekend.

That is not good news about Atholl.
Hope he mends well and quickly. Hope he & Byron make it to Oban but would understand if not.
We'll get the shop-bots onto the shopping list tonight for collection tomorrow.

Re: Big Mac 2013 - OBAN - SHOPPING LIST
This is so unfair in multiple ways!
I own a thundercat, but it's not on the road yet. So I can't come :(
I spend all summer living and working in Oban, normally. I'm currently off work, so I won't be there.
Dammit!
Local knowledge incoming:
Pubs:
Markie Dan's is the best.
Aulays Bar is perfectly ok
Cuan Mor is always overpriced and slightly disappointing (the food). But their range of Oban Bay Brewery beers are rather tasty.
The Caledonian Hotel bar is a nice spot, comfy sofas/chairs. Bit pricey.
The harbour bar issn't the cheapest but it's good for a convenient sneaky pint.
Food:
Markie Dan's is good for chips and other beer-friendly food.
The Oban Bay fish & chips will deep fry anything. Deep fried Pizza/Scallops/Burgers/Mars bars (I shit you not!). All available. Not bad food, cheap, cheerful and usually fried.
The waypoint (Isle of Kerrera, need to get the ferry over) do FANTASTIC seafood. Like, the best seafood I've ever eaten. The also sell Oban bay beers. It's definitely all at a premium though. Pricey but worth it.
Taj Mahal: Everyone seems to enjoy it there, I've never been (Eurgh, indian!), but all my mates recommend it
I'm dead jealous guys. I wish I could be doing either the ride up there, or even just the social, given that I normally live there....
Have fun riding the Loch Lomondside. I'm going progressively greener!
I'll just sit here and polish my cat....

OK, Tom. Don't tell me...
When the Lincolnshire rideout is on you're in Oban?
You seriously need to get your diary sorted!
You should fit into your current location quite nicely then.
Thanks for passing the info on to Ross & Co. Hope they find it useful.
If you're still in Lincs on Sunday afternoon let me know. I'll probably be popping along to Willingham Woods if you're up for a meet & greet. We can be miserable together
