Ventura luggage system??
First topic message reminder :
Does anyone know where I might be able to pick this stuff up (pref cheap as poss). A few friend have said its the best system as apart from the fitting bracket everything else can be lifted and put on future bikes, plus when not in use the additional grab handle doesnt detract from the look of the bike.
Problem is it will cost about £260 plus a further £18 for the grab handle.
This on top of me having to buy camping equipment (which I need the luggage rack to carry it all) is making this hobby quite a lot more expensive.
I need to be ready by February for the first rally as I've been told if I'm not on the first o e of the year they won't let me on the rest!!
Plus it'll come in handy for ride outs with you guys and my trip to Assen next year.
Any help on Ventura ( or cheap camping equipment) appreciated.
P. S I have never camped in my life and have no idea what's good, what's crap or what I should be paying so all help appreciated:)

Re: Ventura luggage system??
Personally I use oxford first time panniers , with a dc bike six hook bunji net, bags are strap on so come off easy and fit plenty of clothes in , and the bunji I've use to strap a six man tent and two sleeping bags on the rear seat , also have carried a mini MOTO dirt bike using the bunji net , all in all cost me £35 and can't fault apart from the waterproof covers ripped but cost £6 to replace , so the cheap and convenient

Re: Ventura luggage system??
Nice deal on the tent there, vangos are a good solid choice!
for your air bed needs, again I would suggest some good outdoor kit for that, christmas to new years sales would be a good time to look for reduced pricing, obviously your paniers choice pending.
Thermarest are the leaders in air beds for traveling/camping, pack down very small are light and also comfotable and pretty sturdy I thing they also come with lifetime guarentees. I bought a cheapy verson of one for £25 quid which was ok but broke after 2 yrs use, a friend of mine uses a thermarest her mum bought in the early 90's and is still going very strong today.
Saying that some of the cheaper options are pretty good, GoOutdoors is certainly worth a look for kit like that.
Hopefully my gabbeling is of some use

I have a Vango Orchy 400 but thought it maybe too big to carry on the bike.
Where the Vango Omega weighs 4.5 the Orchy weighs 12.5. I have an Old Dome 4 man but the weight on that one doesn't feel much lighter than othe Orchy, so I may have to lookout for yet another tent.

stevedj2000 wrote:Do you know how the ventura system works, would you be able to fabricate just the fixing brackets that would be compatable witg the centura kit as I know I can pick the rest up pretty cheap. The reason why I was going for the Ventura is that the actual rack comes off really easy which is important to me as room is tight in the garage and I can't afford to add any length to my bike.
Gotta say that looks really good though
Cheers

Re: Ventura luggage system??
£100 plus p&p that is just a rough guess and I can't see it'll be more than that..
at this stage I wont committ myself to a lower price.
but once I've made it I'll know for sure what the price is.
this will inc powder coatings.
but I will need one to copy off. john

Re: Ventura luggage system??
I've put a bid on a top half rack.
now if I win that all I need is some pictures on how and where the brackets fastened onto.
the rest I can work out being that I've still got the cat.
I will only sell these to forum members.
I will have to change the design slightly so that I dont get into bother with copy rights.
maybe just add another bar etc.
so its up to you guys to help me out here other wise it will not be done,
ventura style that is.
once it is made .
I could make side frame for soft luggage.

Re: Ventura luggage system??
UkJust to be awkward , the way I want it is to clip over existing grab handles (for support )and clip onto footpeg supports , if you get what I mean , as i want a easily removable rack and frame so I can take it on and off as I please
Anything like that possible ?
I know I'm being awkward but gotta ask these things

Re: Ventura luggage system??
My only concern is you reckon on about £100 plus p&p but you can get the ventura one for £102. It is only the brackets I am looking for not the rest of to racks etc. The bit that attracts me is that the rack stays on but its vitually hidden so you don't know it's there. When you need to carry luggage the racks attach really easily. I'm not really looking for a permanently "on" rack.
If you see what I mean?? (around the houses!!)

Re: Ventura luggage system??
Sorry stevedj , I seem to have stolen you topic , as I have never seen the Ventura on a bike , do you need to remove the grab handles to fit ? ( missis don't like the rear hadle but likes side on handles ) And is it truly "hidden" when fitted? Also I think its £100 rack included

The rail is fitted to existing fixtures on the bike so not intrusive at all. Once fitted you buy a grab rail which fits on the rail when not in use, with this on you barely know its there, just looks like part of the bike, google the Ventura website and there are some videos showing the system.

I know I'm being awkward but gotta ask these things
how ever you look at ,the handles have to be removed.
there's no room at the rear brackets for any other fixings.
there's no such thing as quick removals..you have to undo something.
what your saying is the support arm is bolted to the footrest hanger(which it will any way) and just resting on top of the handle?thats no good.

Re: Ventura luggage system??
the £100 mark is for the rack and fastenings.
also I may weld grab handles like the one that I made for a versy.

just looked into ventura webb page.
the 'L' shape brackets is indeed £102.12p
what I meant was the whole capoodle rack and fixings.
so what you are saying is you've already got the rack but just need the 'L' brackets etc.
do you know if all the top racks are the same width?
if not I may need the one that you might have.
some time today I'll have a look and see where the fixings might be other than the footrest hanger.

Re: Ventura luggage system??
ok I'm with ya now.
had a good look at the ventura gizmo's.
also had a look at my cat.
front ok but where do they fastened the rear brackets??
any chance of pictures on how it is done.
as for price the 'L' brackets would be around the 60 mark but if you paint it yourself cheaper still.

Re: Ventura luggage system??
I've searched everywhere for pictures detailing the fitting for a T/cat to no avail, I know some on hear have the ventura system, I'll see if someone can take a picture for you to have a look at.

I've not made one for the cat but once I do then I will know for sure about the price. and yes you'll only need to remove the grab handle.

Re: Ventura luggage system??
Hi all just been on the Ventura website and they've reduced to price of the L bracket to £82!! Bit the bullet and made to purchase, it's christmas after all and if I cant treat myself now when can I??
JohnaKay thanks for all you help and sorry if I've messed you about. When the bracket arrives I'll take some detailed pictures of the braket along with any dimensions plus the fitment instructions so perhaps you can use the info to help others.
Managed to pick up the pack, pack rail and grab handle up for less than half price off ebay (all Hein Gericke ex-display) so merry christmas to me!!

Re: Ventura luggage system??
I spent all day last Thursday trying to work out an easy way of making the brackets etc. gave up in the end.
to much plastic is in the way and also by removing grab handle isn't going to work either. this is due to having very little room and the awkwardness of fitments etc.
had a look again ..can be done but mean cutting some plastic off.
anyway I've decided that I'll buy a renntec rack and take it from there.

Hi John,
I've got a Renntec rack that I bought cheap in a sale ages ago but never fitted because one of the bosses on the mounting brackets is out of place and needs removing and re-welding. In the meantime I needed one quickly so I bought another that does fit, so this one's surplus to requirements.
You're welcome to it for postage plus a bit if it's any use.
Send me a p.m. if you want more info or a photo.
