marker system
Well as all who attended the TOL will know we had a slight hiccup with the marker system on route, not once but twice!!!
when we finally herded everyone together at the services, some polite people were taking the p**s as i came in .Now this triggered a slight teddy out the pram moment from myself, to which i would like to appologise for, not really how i wanted to handle it , but pour the fuel light the blue touch paper and stand well back.
None of it was directed at any people other than those who failed 3 times to mark, and i sincerely hope i didnt offend any others in my unproffesional rant.
Other factors were also involved in me not being at my best so i should have known better. Had it happened after lunch i would have known which routes as thats what we had concentrated on the weekend before!!!
The 2 to mark a junction when in a large group worked very well indeed, although i think some of my rant got through as marking corners became the norm shortly after!!
Hope you all had a good time and i didnt put anyone off
Pete

Seriously you did a grand job
I too should apologise as I alowed my emotions get the better of me as well after the roundabout (non marked) incident.

Re: marker system
Pete,
No offence taken at this end, and I think it actually helped focus the mind for the remainder of the day to make sure we all got it right for the rest of the day!
Although I agree that marking a corner was perhaps a little extreme...... (Numpy point nomination, anyone.....?)

Re: marker system
Sounds pretty normal tbh, I don't think I've ever been on a ride-out where we've finished up with everyone we started with.

Re: marker system
Its ok by us Pete that you lost your cool early morning. Ya do a good responsible job back there and it was'nt intentional to piddle you off when i hung back and then legged it from you.
Point taken on my behalf. We hid however find another fault with folk from the front in which me and Tel marked the last fuel station and we was maybe 7-8th bike in the group. So almost zero errors in the afternoon.
Glad ya took a chill pill though. Would'nt be the same without your normal self...............
Rob.

I found the whole thing hilarious, granted it did mean the whole ride was delayed but it didn't dampen the enjoyment.

Oops I was one of them, I do appologise but in my defence I was busting for a tiddle...my bad
And we love you just the way you are Pete
Re: marker system
I must admit, after arriving late (due to the dreaded Sleaford), It was not the best welcome to barely have got off the bike to have you arrive and immediately throw a wobbly. I almost went straight home again.
Only kidding mate, was quite funny being able to stand back and listen, not knowing what the hell it was all about but safe in the knowledge that it couldn't have been anything I had done as I wasn't even there

So does this mean you are only apologising to the people you unintentionally upset and don't give a stuff about the people you intended to upset ?

Re: marker system
Pete, after listening at the table at lunch and then missing the marker after the roundabout within 5 minitues of leaving, I understand your frustrations.
But in my defense, this was only my 2nd group ride. and I though the roundabout had been double marked.
BTW the two markers worked better, after my little hiccup.
We can all only learn. Plus its better out than in!

Re: marker system
Anyone who has been Tail-end-Charlie / back marker and seen the ride unravel in front of them can empathise.
The marker system, when it works is fantastic, however it can implode in a most spectacular fashion when it goes wrong.

Re: marker system
I have to hang my head & admit too that I was about fifth in line into the last fuel stop & none of us marked it till Rob & Tel did so behind us.
From my own point of view & it's a lame excuse tbf I know, but I find that I tend to rely on the second rider doing his job & that I'm concentrating on everything but actually marking until I'm second in line.
It's a difficult job at the back & probably more responsible than being at the front at times, Tail end Charlie is left to pick up the pieces.
Pete, you did a responsible job there & I might ask you to do BC for me as no one will dare get it wrong again
