marker system
First topic message reminder :
Well as all who attended the TOL will know we had a slight hiccup with the marker system on route, not once but twice!!!
when we finally herded everyone together at the services, some polite people were taking the p**s as i came in .Now this triggered a slight teddy out the pram moment from myself, to which i would like to appologise for, not really how i wanted to handle it , but pour the fuel light the blue touch paper and stand well back.
None of it was directed at any people other than those who failed 3 times to mark, and i sincerely hope i didnt offend any others in my unproffesional rant.
Other factors were also involved in me not being at my best so i should have known better. Had it happened after lunch i would have known which routes as thats what we had concentrated on the weekend before!!!
The 2 to mark a junction when in a large group worked very well indeed, although i think some of my rant got through as marking corners became the norm shortly after!!
Hope you all had a good time and i didnt put anyone off
Pete

I've seen that a few times as well.
The phone call usually goes along these lines:
Where are you?
-Waiting for you at x
That's funny, we're doing the same thing at y. How did you end up at x?
-We followed z on his Ducati
It can't be z, cos he's here with us.
-....(unsure) I'll give you a call back when he comes out of the toilets
few minutes later
-How do we get to y?

Re: marker system
Jeeze, i go away for a week and all hell breaks out!!
ok so who's quit??
Calm down folks....it's only a rideout!
Maybe the system used by our German friends would work better when there is a bigger group...
Have dedicated markers who are used to the system, then other folks who may not be used to it can concentrate on their riding and leave the marking to the dedicated riders.
Def 2 markers is a better idea than 1 as proved at Big Mac this year..
(apart from when me and Athol gave up waiting on David fekkin Bailey...AKA Hairy mammoth man)..(although i was tracking him on my iphone)

I like how you tracked me on your phone and then were taking bets on what mode of transport I was on / in.
After a while it was thought I wasn't going fast enough or off road enough to be in an air ambulance but the jury was out on the ambulance for quite a while.....thanks mate.
Will that be the big hairy mammoth with the big tail and the wee trunk...... did that come out wrong?

Re: marker system
Poor old Steve, I'm sure he'll be pleased you bought that one back up again John lol, it was a superb weekend that went extremely smoothly and was one of the best yet.
Considering how many bikes there were it went very well.
I know exactly how much stress, worry and nervousness it causes in the strive for a safe, fun, and well organised weekend that everyone can enjoy.
