I intend to come along as well but will have to see how my work schedule is going to work out after the new year. Should be ok tho as long as I give them plenty notice.

Re: Where - When - How Long - How Much ?
Cool, that includes a bank holiday weekend here so I should definitely be able to pop round for a couple of days or three.
Only about 2 hours drive for me to Berchtesgaden so well pleased with the location
If you guys need any help or advise on travel or anything just let me know... Or if you want to stay longer / arrive earlier I can help you sort that out too
Oh and the Autozug question... I've never used it but I know quite a few people from Northern Germany regularly use them to go on holiday down south. Saves you a lot in fuel and tires and you get a good rest

Re: Where - When - How Long - How Much ?
I'll just do the translation since I'm here early anyway
Here the link to a map of where it is: Google Map
Website of the place
It's actually just across the border in Austria not that far from where we stayed in 2006.
Their house offers space for about 45-50 people in these rooms and/or apartments:
6x doubles for 1-2 people
3x apartments for 2 people
4x 2-bed flats for 2-4 people (1 bedroom + 1 sleeper sofa)
4x 3-bed flats for 4 people (2 bedrooms)
1x 4-bed flat for 6-8 people (3 bedrooms)
All flats, apartments and rooms are en-suite.
Price per person per night €42 (half board) + €1.70 per person per night visitor's tax.
Instead of an evening meal they can organise a BBQ for one evening if that's wanted.
And everyone gets the "Königs Card" which offers over 200 discounts and such. More information here: www.koenigscard.com
Sounds pretty good to me

Re: Where - When - How Long - How Much ?
Hi there,
had just a look on http://www.dbautozug.de for prices from Düsseldorf to Innsbruck, but for the moment you can´t book for June. They´ll start the bookong-time on the 5th of November. For the moment the best price for a return-journey is round about 380,00 €/person+bike
All overnight-trips which makes it comfortable. But I think there will come some special offers. Problem is, that the trains are not running every day and so they don´t fit with our plans in the alps.
Think, most of the Germans try to fix the holidays for the time from 30.05. - 05.06.13 but some will perhaps visit us only for 2 or 3 days. I think we can manage this
Many of the germans will plan to take the bikes by trailer to safe tires and fuel!
Tours are planed on Friday and Saterday and Monday and Thusday. Sunday is planed as day off what for ever we like...
All that just for the moment as proposals are still welcome. Perhaps there are options to make part of the trip together with you.

I'm not sure Dave (sorry I know that was helpful).
How long are folk planning on being away? Looks like a 2 weeker, had thought if I do go to come back via Switzerland / France.

Re: Where - When - How Long - How Much ?
Well I'm up for it.
The variables for me are.
1) Ferry timetable (preferably from Newcastle to Amsterdam as it is closer to me) or possibly from Hull to Amsterdam
2) Train timetable (Düsseldorf to Innsbruck)
3) Looking to tie in with our German friends for at least two nights and at least one possibly two rideouts. Should this include the day off (Sunday)?
I know that the Ferry costs are cheaper if we can book in groups of 4.
Bearing in mind that I would have 4 overnights on moving transport (ferry/train) I'm happy to make this at least a 10 day up to no more than 14 day trip.
Question is - do we wait on this special offer on the train or just 'bite the bullet' and book it??
Any of the 'locals' advise on the previous experience of these special offers?
If 3 other folks want to 'dive' in I'm happy to book the ferry / train with them once we agree a timetable.
Cheers
Rosco

Good point of these dates is they incorporate a bank holiday.
Bad point is it's half term, might be difficult to get past 'er indoors for some.

Happy New Year
Just thought I'd revive this thread again and see if people are still planning on doing this trip?
I'd need to know relatively soon as I'll have to book some time off...
Hope a few of you can make it.

Hi Thomas & A Happy New Year to you, Hillary and the children as well.
I'm affraid it looks very doubtful that I'll be able to make this (health reasons).
I believe Ross, DBD and Chris have some fairly strong plans to go. They're still hammering out methods of getting to the alps (ie. cartrain, ferry routes etc.)
Not sure if John will be going or if he's aware of the trip.
Cheers

Yep - been thinking about getting organised for this one.
Happy New Year to you too Thomas.
Need to get plans sorted and holidays organised very soon and work out the best timings of ferries, trains and accommodation for this.
I'll PM the numpty point collectors to see what their plans are.
Cheers

Just to bump this post......so far we have 5 uk trippers for this, we are going to book ferries etc very shortly so if anyone else fancies it speak now or forever hold your peace...
Our plan is to meet up with our German counterparts for at least one of their ride outs, spend some socialising time with them then do our "bucket list" of alpine roads. We are planning a 10 day trip.

I'm still very much a serious doubtful for this I'll make my own chunnel/travel arrangements if I do make it.
Might go over with espaceman in his spacemobile and trailer the bikes. He is due to have a hip replacement end of March though, so will have to see if he's up to it.

Bump,
If you are registered on the German Thundercat site, you might wish to just drop them a line (in english will do ~ they'll understand it) , at this direct and let them know how many are going to be there, and names.
They obviously need this info for rooms. Or have you been in contact with them already and they just haven't mentioned it in there Tref (meeting) thread ?
i.e. They have listed their names and how many, but there is no sign even of numbers intending to attend from UK, . . . . just rumours that MAYBE up to 5 might be coming.
Cheers & regards

Re: Where - When - How Long - How Much ?
Thanks Tel. Uli was going to get hold of me once he had confirmation from the hotel's owners - last I heard they were still on holiday.
I had mentioned there were 6 of us and the dates we would be there, independently John (espaceman) has made arrangements with Uli.
He's (John) made a remarkable recovery from his hip replacement. Two weeks after the op he felt well enough to tackle the trip again.
I tried logging onto the site yesterday but seems I have locked myself out or something worse.. easily done I guess seeing I can't understand 90+% of the messages ...

Okay,
As long as someone has their finger on the pulse . . . would hate to see it go petetong at this late stage.
BTW, I only noticed last night that the banner (the scrolling one), that I added to the forum, had the wrong dates on it and no one told me !
Or did you all have date blindness like me and mix april/may up with may/june too
I have corrected it since
