Searching for Eddie990's New Wheels
First topic message reminder :
Right, been having a debate/discussion with Terry over the last few weeks regarding the selection of my next bike. So just for fun I thought I'd ask the nation as it were. Like doing a street poll but lazier.
I'm looking at something which has a reputation for being a bit mental, the KTM 990 Superduke.

'If all of life were like a KTM Super Duke it would be a short, barely glimpsed blur of action-packed vignettes. There is surely nothing more frenetic on two-wheels than the KTM 990 Super Duke short of sticking a nitrous kit, a jet turbine and a flame-thrower into the frame of a fold-up bicycle.'
I kind of like the sound of that, sounds hedonistic.
Terry reckons I should look at something with longer legs, like a FJR1300 or a Triumph Sprint or something of that ilk. You know, the sort of bike to effortlessly devour continents whilst carrying fresh pants, a large bottle of gin and a bag of limes in the panniers. (Separate panniers obviously)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
'The Yamaha FJR1300 is the first from-the-ground-up touring bike the Japanese firm has built. With shaft drive, comprehensive fairing, bespoke hard luggage, massive tank capacity etc, this motorcycle ticks plenty of boxes. The Yamaha FJR1300 has loads of power and the four cylinder engine makes 99 ft/lbs of torque at 7K revs too. That means grunt and plenty of it, more than enough to help two people, plus loads of kit, overtake safely on A roads.'
This also sounds good, especially the space for gin.
Because I have not won the lottery (yet, it's coming), I can only choose one
So, help me decide. What do you reckon? Is it time I swapped a**e-ache for buttock-cosseting comfort? Can shaft driven tourers wheelie? Do you have any better options and if it were your money, what would you spend it on? (Must be motorcycle related,Rosco and DBD, that means no dodgy wigs, whisky or crazy ex-lap dancers)
Just to be fair, as it's currently in 2nd place.

Disclaimer: I know this is a Thundercat site and that is the obvious answer, who knows? I loved my cat and might be tempted by another but this is just for a wee bit of fun. Hell, I can't buy ANY bike until I move into my damn house, I haven't even got a garage to put one in.......I'm virtually homeless for Christ's sake!

Re: Searching for Eddie990's New Wheels
Right, house purchase is nearing completion! We should be in by the end of the month so the bike hunt gathers pace
Booked the day off work tomorrow to head back home and sign important papers but that isn't happening now. So..........
A day off work, and nothing to do but go bike shopping
Happy days!

Got my papers this week.
Hope you find something. A Mate has just traded his GS for a Tuono.

Pfft! She could try!
As she would say 'I could voice my opinion Chris, but in the end you'll do what you want anyway so why bother'

Re: Searching for Eddie990's New Wheels
Well if she likes the seat and style of the bike, that helps in the reason to buy it.
Think Linz was happy to just have a seat instead of a pad, that she's normally used to on the R1.
Have you tried the KTM 990 SMT, Chris?
I was out last Sunday with a bunch guy's and out of the 9 of us, 4 of the bikes was the Ktm's and they praise them no end. Ex-sport bike riders they are who wanted comfort, handling and performance.
Almost sounds like the Holy Grail....

The Austin 7 is starting to look more and more like the tool for the job. Been talking to Katie about it, and she quite fancies the idea.
