Searching for Eddie990's New Wheels
First topic message reminder :
Right, been having a debate/discussion with Terry over the last few weeks regarding the selection of my next bike. So just for fun I thought I'd ask the nation as it were. Like doing a street poll but lazier.
I'm looking at something which has a reputation for being a bit mental, the KTM 990 Superduke.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
'If all of life were like a KTM Super Duke it would be a short, barely glimpsed blur of action-packed vignettes. There is surely nothing more frenetic on two-wheels than the KTM 990 Super Duke short of sticking a nitrous kit, a jet turbine and a flame-thrower into the frame of a fold-up bicycle.'
I kind of like the sound of that, sounds hedonistic.
Terry reckons I should look at something with longer legs, like a FJR1300 or a Triumph Sprint or something of that ilk. You know, the sort of bike to effortlessly devour continents whilst carrying fresh pants, a large bottle of gin and a bag of limes in the panniers. (Separate panniers obviously)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
'The Yamaha FJR1300 is the first from-the-ground-up touring bike the Japanese firm has built. With shaft drive, comprehensive fairing, bespoke hard luggage, massive tank capacity etc, this motorcycle ticks plenty of boxes. The Yamaha FJR1300 has loads of power and the four cylinder engine makes 99 ft/lbs of torque at 7K revs too. That means grunt and plenty of it, more than enough to help two people, plus loads of kit, overtake safely on A roads.'
This also sounds good, especially the space for gin.
Because I have not won the lottery (yet, it's coming), I can only choose one
So, help me decide. What do you reckon? Is it time I swapped a**e-ache for buttock-cosseting comfort? Can shaft driven tourers wheelie? Do you have any better options and if it were your money, what would you spend it on? (Must be motorcycle related,Rosco and DBD, that means no dodgy wigs, whisky or crazy ex-lap dancers)
Just to be fair, as it's currently in 2nd place.

Disclaimer: I know this is a Thundercat site and that is the obvious answer, who knows? I loved my cat and might be tempted by another but this is just for a wee bit of fun. Hell, I can't buy ANY bike until I move into my damn house, I haven't even got a garage to put one in.......I'm virtually homeless for Christ's sake!

Re: Searching for Eddie990's New Wheels
As we all know, bikes are only as quick as the riders. On track, the FJR will get leathered but on our duff road network, Terry's FJR is one of the quickest bikes I've come across.
Won't win the style stakes or the gizmo collection but the bike has a loyal fan base as it does its intended job.
I just think its an age related bike, what Terry has. I'll be going adventure style for my next bike. Something that's comfortable and with plenty of leg room.
So go for a nutters bike Chris or the New 1190 Adventurer. Got very good reviews.

Do you think he might be in for a new set of wheels as well? That poor bloody thing can't be far from that scrapyard in the sky.

Re: Searching for Eddie990's New Wheels
No chance Tes. He's tighter than a gnats chuff.
Unless Tesco start flogging motorcycles of course.
Next time you'll see it it'll have a bandage wrapped around the engine with Tesco clubcards wedged in the gaping hole where the oil is trying to escape from. Even the oil has had enough!!!!

Re: Searching for Eddie990's New Wheels
Of the three, it has to be the KTM! But there have been some 'sensible' (not an adjective I'd normally use to describe you Chris ) alternatives suggested here. Have fun deciding. deciding. I'm sure a man of your persuasion can surely handle the conflict of house and bike. Oh, and who needs a garage, you just need friends, I managed without one for 10 years.
Hope you get sorted soon. Keep us posted.

Re: Searching for Eddie990's New Wheels
Dukes are not his style, I think. Plus the cost of keeping them as he does quite a few miles a year.
Either KTM or a Triumph he'll opt for.

KTM has been sold, unfortunately not to me
Mrs Ed says she is coming on some of the rideouts this year so I'm looking into a Triumph Sprint GT.
