I can't believe that I was the first person to want ThunderMatt as a forum name. Shame on you other members called Matt.

Well, hello everyone, my name's Matt and I bought a Thundercat unseen yesterday and am due to take delivery of said bike this evening. Excited and nervous I guess, I've not bought unseen before but at least it has full service history and felt like a good deal to me. I'll have learnt my lesson if it turns out to have the second gear issue.

I'm doing DAS at the moment so won't be able to get out on it straight away. At least wanting to do that will speed me up doing Mod1 and 2.

Not sure whether I've just not found my way round the site yet but there's fewer posts in the workshop than I thought that there'd be. I'll take that as a good sign.

welcome3 To the forum Matt,

Good luck with the bike and hope it's not a lemon too. I did the same, bought it on ebay and picked it up without seeing it before. she is now mot'd taxd and insured and rides like a dream, you won't be disappointed

As for the 2nd gear issue, hmm I had the same thoughts as many on here did but it's a myth. check this out, hope it works

link https://www.yamaha-thundercats.org/t5577-reviews

Check out 'the lounge' for more info on 2nd gear issues

Hi Matt, welcome. Hope you don't mind me deleting your duplicate post, looked like the same content.

Second gear isn't the scourge that it's made out to be. When you get a chance take some pics, we love piccies.
All the best with your Mod1 and 2
How much were you expecting in the workshop? What a Face Very Happy Possibly it doesn't seem a lot because it is broken down into sections

Hi Matt and welcome to the forum, to be honest I can't think of many Matts on here so you've got lucky. Congrats on the choice of bike they are great, especially as a first bike, (I bought mine before I passed and you're right it is a good motivator to get through your tests) but now you've got it, forget about it as it will get in your head if you're not careful.

2nd gear issue, it's either an urban myth or old wives tail, I'm not sure of the numbers but there have been a fair few cat owners pass through this forum and only 1 member has ever had that "2nd gear" issue that so many seem to speak about!!

You're in good hands with a cat, as long as you grease em, oil em and clean em, (no offense Ross!!) they are pretty much bullet proof, great to ride, very forgiving for new riders and very confidence inspiring.

I see you're based in the North West, whereabouts, I'm in Oldham (Just) if you ever fancy a ride out when you've passed and got some miles under your belt. Also have a look in Something For The Weekend and feel free to join us on a rideout, part ride, part social, great fun and all skill levels catered for!!

Best of luck

Steve

Hi and welcome matt,

good luck with the DAS and as stevecat has said some picces is good, we love piccies we do.

if the bikes got a full service history, I would have thought that the 2nd gear myth wont be an issue for you, as stu posted, just check the bike once you have it and your license.

the rideouts are great, been on a few now and always good fun on and off the bike, always gives you some stories to tell afterwards, especially if you meet sheep chasing john and rosco's oil disliking cat!

Ah a Mk1 Golf, I remember looking at one when they were released, the salesman ignored me - he didn't take me seriously because I arrived in the dealership on a bike (maybe that I was 20 didn't help much either), idiot.
Mind you he did me a favour, I may not have continued biking if I bought it

It is a big world on this site and yes, not much goes wrong at all with the trusty cat, if looked after. Abuse them for 7-8 years with little TLC, and it will probably let you down. Rosco comes to mind in that matter.

Good bike to start you off on your path though.
