Matlock Bath - Parking Charges Empty Matlock Bath - Parking Charges

Shamelessly pilfered from another forum . . . . . . .

It would appear that Derbyshire County Council would like to put parking charges in place in Matlock Bath. You may or may not go to the Bath but no doubt have heard it to be a "Mecca" especially on a Sunday. If you don't agree with another Tax being levied then add your name to the petition. Apparently the only people that really want this is the Council and a few Nimbys. The local shop keepers / cafe owners are against it as it will hit their trade. Please pass on to your biking buddies (or anyone that does not want to pay to park in Matlock)

I try and avoid the place anyway lol.

It's absolutely crap when busy and the worst place to ride a bike to.

If you meet in the carpark it's already pay and display.

How will they enforce it on a bike? There's better places to meet that are free and apart from the chip shops it's not got alot else to offer.

I was there the other week, it was brilliant, loads of bikes there, really good atmosphere, loads of people to talk to, place for a drink, something to eat and a sit down, what more could you want from a bike meet, my first time but I loved it and can see the attraction.

Saying that I love a ride out to Devils Bridge and that's just nice roads, bikes and a sandwich van (unless you wanna dive off the bridge which they do In the summer. Ticks all the boxes in my book. Places where bikers can go unmolested are becoming harder to find so the Matlock Baths & Devils Bridges of the area need preserving.

It's fine if your happy to pootle for ages at 15 miles an hour in and out of trafic to get there. It's great if you get days off in the week as its much quieter.

It also depends if you like to go out and ride or go and talk about riding. If I'm meeting mates there it's fine.

I quite like to stop at CMC for a coffee as its a nice cafe, there's a cafe at Ollerton that's nice and the roads are better to get there on.

The 50mph roads around Matlock are mind numbingly boring and don't inspire me at all.

Monsal Heads lovely for a rideout, nice pub too.

Still not sure how they will police the tickets on the bikes on the side of the road, the central car park is already pay & display.
