Wet weather riding
Just back from a weekend working in Edinburgh and used the bike. Got wet on way up yesterday (A7 was shut between Langholm and Hawick, had to use the twisty, twisty back road) had road almost to myself.
Today got well and truly soaked on way home via Biggar and M74.
Things I now know:
Lidl hi viz jacket is waterproof, unfotunately the pockets aren't so phone is knackered.
My Frank Thomas boots - left boot is waterproof, but not the right!
Richa trousers are A1 waterproof.
And the bike - well you will not be surprised to know that it performed exactly as it should -no drama. just fun despite the cold and wet.

Sounds like the early hillwalking jackets you used to get before they used waterproof zips with storm flaps.
Anything in an outside pocket was likely to end up in a mess.
Btw, I've seen some phones recover from a good soaking (i.e. going through the washing machine) if they're stripped down and left to dry.
I'd maybe even go so far as to wrap it up (minus the battery, the SIM and the memory card) in towel with laccy bands and bung it in the tumble drier. :/
Re: Wet weather riding
Cheers Wooster - currently trying it in a bag of rice! Lesson learned, inside pocket from now on.

Re: Wet weather riding
Crikey Billy.....sorry to hear that.
Hope she dries out and works again.
Plenty of google and "gadget show" advice out there too they did an episode on recovering phones.
I had a similar problem with my camera enroute to ToL.
I made the mistake of putting a bottle of water (fancy flip top lid) in my tank bag next to and on top of my camera bag. After about two hours into my journey I felt my inside leg getting wet. While I might be getting on a bit I didn't think I'd lost control down there yet.
When I stopped and removed the offending article my camera bag didn't seem that wet inside but by the time I got to ToL and stopped for a picture the camera would switch on but wouldn't take any pictures.
Fortunately a night in the boiler / laundry room sorted her. :o
Fingers crossed for you.
Cheers
Rosco

Re: Wet weather riding
In addition - You'd have thought the bit under the clear plastic of a tank bag would be waterproof. Whilst the clear plastic bit is waterproof is all the stitching and gubbings round it aren't and I soon found a phone lying in a pool of water. Oops.

Re: Wet weather riding
If you are looking for something cheap and waterproof then you can pick up kayak dry bags pretty cheap (GO Outdoors do a budget one for £6).
That's another old trick from my outdoor days.
Even the most expensive rucksacks let some water in, so you always used a dry liner.

For your clear bit on your tank bag, you could pick up a silicon rubber map bag Rosco.

Phone back from the dead!
Rice trick didn't work so armed partly with Woosters idea took out battery and sim and put it in oven at work (workshop plastics type) at a low heat for a couple of hours.
Now all back and seemingly fine, happy days.

Cheers Fraz - might have to check that out.
Terry - if Ross wasn't taking so many pics on route you'd have to put up with him in the bar for longer!

I suppose I could put up with that, as the longer he's in the bar, the greater the chance of him putting his hand in his pocket,AND BUYIN A FECKIN ROUND!
