Crashed on the way home from work tonight
First topic message reminder :
Okay so i am sat at the front of the lights at a major crossroad at red.
The opposite turning right traffic is going through on the filter, a few cars go through & there is an arctic coming up the hill towards the junction. My light turns green so his filter has gone.
I set off across the lights but the truck keeps going making my gap smaller & smaller.
I managed to swerve through the gap so i did not hit the truck head on but glanced his right corner with my head, shoulder, elbow & upper thigh.I managed to syay on the bike even though the back wheel lifted & got thrown to the left.
As luck would have it a police van with 4 very nice & biker friendly cops were a few cars back at the other side of the lights & stopped me from dragging the truck driver out of the cab.
Insurance details swapped & statements taken i rode home thinking that was a bit too close.
A couple of hours on & i ache pretty bad but everything is still attatched.
The bike is not bad really. Micron can is scratched & a bit bent & also there is a dent in the swingarm where the exhaust has hit it.

Re: Crashed on the way home from work tonight
Had a little ride out this afternoon on the slightly damaged cat before it goes in for hopefully a new swinging arm & exhaust sometime next week.
My shoulder still hurts a fair bit so i only did 20 miles or so but really wanted to get out for a little ride so the last time i rode was not when some idiot truck driver tried to take me out.
Paul.

Take it steady Paul. Slow and easy. Missed you at Seaways so we'll have to arrange another meet, the next time Rovers are at home and when you and your bike are fixed.
Regards Rich.

Not very often you'll tangle with a wagon and get away with it.

Re: Crashed on the way home from work tonight
Glad to hear you got away with not much more than a bruise or two. Hope you're back to 100% quicksmart, and that the insurance company gets you back on two (straight) wheels soon

Re: Crashed on the way home from work tonight
Took the bike for an estimate doing at colin appleyard my local yammy dealer & recieved the written quote yesterday.
Replacement of the swingarm & exhaust, Micron are no longer in business so they recommender a quill carbon oval which looks nice.
The estimate is £1385.
Still waiting for the insurance companies to sort themselves out.

Re: Crashed on the way home from work tonight
Oooh ! . . . . That must be close to BER (beyond economic repair), and a write off !!! ?
Re: Crashed on the way home from work tonight
Was wondering that myself tel. It would not be a bad thing if they pay me out for value & let me by it back for a few hundred.
This next coming winter i intend to black the frame & swingarm anyway so i would repair the damaged one. I could possibly end up quids in but we will see.

Re: Crashed on the way home from work tonight
i was told they may offer me "cash in lieu of repairs". i.e they dont think worth repair even tho i obv am going to but better than writing it off.
apparently common in older bikes as they know the owners like to keep them

Re: Crashed on the way home from work tonight
Not too bad rich thank you. Dull ache in my neck still which is worse in a morning & evening, still get pins & needles in my right arm & do not have a strong grip as usual.
Had a ride to devils bridge sunday morn with a mate who has just passed his test so it was very lesuirely & not too demanding but felt knackered sunday night. I do realise i am not ready to ride lots of miles but hopefully will be bt s&t.
How are you? see u soon hopefully.
Paul.

Re: Crashed on the way home from work tonight
Glad to hear the insurers are progressing things for you and I hope you're happy with the result. Sounds like you're still not recovered from the incident however. Keep active and riding and I trust you'll be back to your old self soon.
All the best,
Chris

Re: Crashed on the way home from work tonight
Nice brand new shiny swingarm has now been fitted.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Unfortunately the exhaust was not fitted due to a gasket not coming with the exhaust.
Instead i got the new exhaust given in the box which when i got home & had a look is not what was on the estimate or what i agreed as a replacement.
A few phone calls to & fro with the dealer the correct exhaust is now on order.
