Crashed on the way home from work tonight
Okay so i am sat at the front of the lights at a major crossroad at red.
The opposite turning right traffic is going through on the filter, a few cars go through & there is an arctic coming up the hill towards the junction. My light turns green so his filter has gone.
I set off across the lights but the truck keeps going making my gap smaller & smaller.
I managed to swerve through the gap so i did not hit the truck head on but glanced his right corner with my head, shoulder, elbow & upper thigh.I managed to syay on the bike even though the back wheel lifted & got thrown to the left.
As luck would have it a police van with 4 very nice & biker friendly cops were a few cars back at the other side of the lights & stopped me from dragging the truck driver out of the cab.
Insurance details swapped & statements taken i rode home thinking that was a bit too close.
A couple of hours on & i ache pretty bad but everything is still attatched.
The bike is not bad really. Micron can is scratched & a bit bent & also there is a dent in the swingarm where the exhaust has hit it.

Paul,
Glad your okay, and well enough to type out this post. I'm also glad the bike seems to come through, not to badly off. Especially one on one with an arctic.
You were fighting a bit above your weight tonight mate.

Bloomin Eck Paul.
Glad you are still in one piece albeit a bit bruised.
Sounds like you've got favourable witnesses which is good.
Hope you and the bike mend quickly and well. Hope also that their insurance pays out with minimal fuss.

Re: Crashed on the way home from work tonight
Any shunt you can walk (or ride) away from is a result mate (especially with an Artic). Glad your OK.
Re: Crashed on the way home from work tonight
Blimey Paul that doesn't sound good!
I've a feeling you were still running on adrenalin when you took the pics and posted up. I do hope you are all OK. You'll know in the morning. I guess you'll be black and blue on your right-hand side?
The bike damage doesn't look too bad, but it's a pain having to deal with it. Hopefully you've got witnesses you can rely on to make things a bit easier. Fingers crossed.
Take it easy.

Re: Crashed on the way home from work tonight
Glad you are ok! Don't play the "what if" game, you can't win that one...luck was on your side, especially with the witnesses!
Re: Crashed on the way home from work tonight
Thanks everybody for concern & well wishes. I ache pretty bad now & realise i also hit my ankle & hand as they hurt as well.
Re running it through my mind i realise i was pretty lucky & my reactions were pretty sharp to squeeze through the little gap, albeit having to shoulder barge the truck was much better than a head on crash.
Ride safe everyone
Paul.

Re: Crashed on the way home from work tonight
Glad you came out pretty much ok and the bike didn't take too much of a hit. God helps those who help themselves (not that I'm religious or owt) and you def helped yourself get out of a potentially very bad situation. Hope the aches go away soon.

Re: Crashed on the way home from work tonight
Little update. Struggled to get much sleep last night as everytime i moved something hurt.
Went to hospital this morning for a checkover just to be on the safe side. Nothing too major a bit of muscle tissue damage & whiplash.
Just had a proper look at the bike & then rung the insurance company who took basic details & said someone would ring me back.
Bike damage minor scratches on mirror, indicator, bar end weight, exhaust & dent/paint damage on swingarm.

As yamahamad said, they were biker friendly cops, so they might have looked the other way... or perhaps leant him the back of the van to use, so everything was out of prying/ witness eyes!
Seriously though, glad you're OK apart from the tissue damage. Fingers crossed the insurance companies are decent sorts and get things patched up v quickly

Re: Crashed on the way home from work tonight
a bit of muscle tissue damage & whiplash.
Where theres blame, theres a claim!
I had whiplash last August and am still having probs so get it recorded, visit your GP too, ask the truck drivers insurance company for physio! Ive had physio weekly since last September and its been a real help.
Re: Crashed on the way home from work tonight
Sounds like a close one Paul, glad you're not seriously hurt.
Don't be too pissed about the bike, metal is easily mended. Bones not so much......
Hope the aches and pains don't last too long.
