Big Mac 2011 (DATES CONFIRMED - Ride Out: Sat 23rd July & Sun 24th July)

First topic message reminder :

We are staying in a Big Scottish Highland Castle (not a :bounce: bouncy :bounce: one) for circa £30 a night (should be cheaper).
Youth Hostel in Ullapool for circa £20 a night.

We expect to visit John O' Groats on one day and Applecross on the other.

I require a non-refundable deposit of £25 to secure your place as soon as possible, as I have to pay this to this up front. There is other accomodation nearby.

It's not a problem at all! The castle would have been nice, but actually Ullapool is a nicer place to stay and there is way more "nightlife" and food options than we would have had at Carbisdale.

But I think I can speak for all the Germans and confirm the change pf location, no castle but pups etc. nearby so not too wrong!

Managed to change it the booking back (to 26 people) without a charge since they hadn't quite sent me a confirmation email.

Really looking forward to it. Parked the bike up after Mallory last October and it's not moved until last weekend. Nice to get back on it.

Hi All - I need the final payments from everyone as soon as possible and ideally before this weekend.

Good news is that the Ullapool Hostel is a bit cheaper than the original plan and the remaining amount required is only £35 pp.

UPDATE

Friday night - meet and greet. Everyone will be arriving at different times. Please organise your own evening meal either enroute to Ullapool or there are plenty of fast food, pubs that serve food and restaurants near to the youth hostel.
There is a band playing traditional music at 'The Seaforth' which is just along from the hostel. I'm suggesting we at least sample this and if it's good we stay and if it's not we go to the pub on the other side of the hostel - The Ferry Boat Inn.


Saturday ride - still undecided as to whether this will be the longer John o'groats or shorter Applecross run. Will confirm as soon.

Saturday evening - evening meal at 'the seaforth'. I've advised our dietary requirements.

Sunday ride - (as above)

Sunday evening - evening meal at the Ullapool Tandoori - Indian Restaurant. I've advised our dietary requirements.

All the venues mentioned including the hostel are on Shore St, Ullapool. Note that the ferry terminal is also on this street and is well sign posted.
The Indian restaurant is a short distance away on West Lane.

The hostel charges £2 for a towel. Or you can bring your own.
All bedding is provided.

From everyone's £60 there is enough to pay for everyones accommodation, enough food for everyones breakfast for 3 mornings and monies left goes to buying some liquid refreshment for back at the hostel. Everyone needs to muck in for making breakfasts and cleaning up afterwards. Non-compliance will lead to public shaming.

The hostel has advised that they lock the doors at midnight so we need to make sure at least one person is back by then and has the blanket ladder made up.

I didn't ask if we could stay up later but I'm sure it won't be a problem if we are quiet enough.


Unfortunately Oldcat and Bea have had to pull out. Hopefully we can find replacements and I can refund their deposits. If you know anyone who might like to join us then please let me know asap.

I hope you've sorted the cotton-free vegan bedsheets, gluten free hypo-allergenic halal bacon butties and organic fair-trade latex-free alcohol from sustainable sources I asked you to, otherwise I simply can't come...
