Tyres
Hi all -
Does anyone have any experience of maxis tyres? I'll need to change mine soon. I put b/stone battlax 021s on my cat when i first got it. However, it's my first bike and first set of tyres, so can't compare them with anything else.
your views would be appreciated
Cheers,
Woody

Re: Tyres
There were a couple of threads on Maxxis tyres. Use the 'Search' box to the top-right of this page and see what comes up - I seem to recall people being positive about them.

Re: Tyres
I am running Maxxis Supersports on my Thundercat and am very pleased so far. Used to run Bridgestone 020s which were fine too. However I fitted a BT21, that whilst good for wear rate, gave little confidence in terms of grip and predictability.
I will try and find the link about my tyres...

Re: Tyres
I have heard good reports from a mate at work on a zx7r & mevsyd on his ace. I have fitted dunlop d207e tyres this year & really like them so far, 1000 miles covered.

Re: Tyres
Hey Woody, I've just put a new back tyre on for my mot and so far on this bike I've had nothing but maxxis. I was going to go for metzler m3s but I saw radars bike with the maxxis so I thought I would give them a go as I liked the look of them. Also apparently the marshals on the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy had them on their bikes doing 120ish in the wet so that was a good accolade! I like the profile of them, they seem to give a great deal of feedback when cornering and they don't ever seem to lose it regardless of lean. I've done a couple of trackdays on them now and the biggest shock to me wasn't that the tyres would give but that the footpegs grounded..! To be fair they are a 'budget' tyre. But I'm more than happy with them in the wet and the dry, just don't expect serious miles out of them..

Re: Tyres
I've just switched to Maxxis Supermax Sports tyres. Not had chance to see how they are in the rain but so far there greaaat! The bloke at the garage which fitted them did state that there may be some false economy as he said there quick wearing.
They've scrubbed in well and my rear CS are below 10mm on day to day riding. A lot better that the Dunlops, but maybe that's just me getting better.
All up a good buy at £140 + £50 fitted to the bike.

Re: Tyres
Thanks again for the extra advice.
have just read a right up on tyres in a bike mag ( forget which one), and they come out middle of the pack. Dont think thats bad at all , as the other tyres were all top brands and loads more expensive. The only real downside was a loss of traction out of corners under hard acceleration - and that was only found by one of the testers.
Cheers,
Woody
PS prefer advice from real riders, rather than the journos.......
