Hellooooo!
First topic message reminder :
Hi all!
Awesome site. Snagsy here, just doing my Direct Access course at the moment (not literally!), and purchased a T-Cat for my first bike! Its getting delivered next sat/sun. 1997 and FSH:
30 years old, married with 2 kids and been driving since 17 so left it a little late I suppose, but better late than ever!
Anyway hope to learn a lot here and please be gentle

Re: Hellooooo!
Ahh the contentious swerve test, sounds like you did alright with the rest , that's good news - pity about the 48 km/h.
ATB for next week.

Re: Hellooooo!
Oh man . I feel for you - I know what a pain in the arse that DAS1 is - I did pass pass 1st time luckily , but the swerve test and emergency stop , where you have to reach 48kph - it's just not something you would do in a normal riding scenario - and it was the two exercises I hated doing the most . Anyway chin up and good luck for next time .

Re: Hellooooo!
Ahh, never mind, not worth worrying about.
You aren't the first and won't be the last to have to retake the test.
It's a set of exercises you have to pass, either by good judgement or luck, on the day. The real learning starts after you pass the test. So go through the motions, however many times it may take.
After the elation of passing be modest, considerate and above all safe in your riding. Be prepared to learn much more than you already know. Oh and join us for a rideout (as if you haven't heard that before!) - there's loads of bad habits you can poke fun at!
Cheers,
Chris

Re: Hellooooo!
Hello mate. Did my DAS course in 2008 aged 32, got the 'cat as my first bike. Absolutely love it. As one relative newbie to another, take it steady - these 'cats are pretty docile but 100bhp is still quite a lot, and big speeds come up quick unless you're careful (unless you're trying of course... ). Take care and have fun!

Re: Hellooooo!
Thanks for all the well wishes, looks like they worked!
Passed Module 1 today, zero minor faults! Swerve test @ 54kph, Emergency stop @ 64(!)kph (haha not so much overkill! )
Bike got delivered on saturday, and she's a beauty! Is there anything I should look out for that I can check visually? I had a very little shot on her up the street and back and seems fine, but not too sure what to look for.
Module 2 test on 25th March (next week!) - Cannot wait! I booked full days of lessons just to be sure
£213 3rd party fire and theft quote on the cat for me, seems pretty reasonable to me considering my 2.2 diesel avensis costs me £350 to insure (comp)! Thats with carole nash.
Cheers! Snagster

Re: Hellooooo!
Well done on passing, and all the best for the next one.
Some basic things you can check, the chain, tyres for tread wear and pressure. As you have a FSH and if it was recently done, there shouldn't be anything you need to look out for. If the bike has stood for a bit, might be worth checking the brakes, the calipers have a bad tendency of seizing.

Re: Hellooooo!
Nice one on passing
One thing I would check quite often is the noise of the exhaust
A light twist of the throttle 2 or 3 times a day should do the trick

Re: Hellooooo!

Re: Hellooooo!
I should've made myself a bit clearer ... my fault...... so for the avoidance of any doubt i was talking about current Thundercat owners ... lovely tho the guys are they don't have their thundercats anymore :( (with the exception of Nige who hasn't had one ...... yet ) and if Snagsy get's here within 2 weeks then the wheels of the RAF postings have obviously started moving a lot quicker than they did in my day so we'll probably be 2 for a time ... me and AndyB then Snagsy'll make 3 again

Re: Hellooooo!
Awsome on passing your MOD1 , I think that's more difficult than MOD 2 , which is about riding , you already know how to ride so all you've got to do in MOD 2 is , watch speed limits , but also don't go to slow , lots of life savers - examiners love them and make it obvious you are doing it.
All the very best of luck

Re: Hellooooo!
Well done!! :whoop: awkward nervous bit out the way, easier part left, as previously mentioned lots of mirrors, lifesavers, and stick to speed limit as much and soon as possible no hanging around, drilled into me for my mod 2 last year, sure you'll fly through, congrats again!!!

Re: Hellooooo!
PASSED \o/
Sorry for not updating, but had not too much internet time.
Failed the first module 2 exam, due to me hardly touching the rear brakes - I was a bit gutted the guy i had lessons with didn't pick up on it to be honest!!!
Had to wait 10 working days for retest, so over easter public holidays :( Took it yesterday after having no more lessons and 3 weeks off a bike and passed!
Now, unfortunately im stuck in scotland for next 8 days and my bike is in england - but its ready and taxed/insured etc for when i get back!
