Got my knee down.......What a plonker
On the way back from ToL after leaving Chris at Scotch corner I continued to head back home.
Never thought I'd managed to get my knee down especially on a straight
Yes...you've probably guessed correctly by now.
I got my knee down quickly followed by arse and elbow.
The reason, a rabbit, a f&*$ing rabbit. I still can't believe I tried to stop/swerve for a rabbit.
It did its best to block me and I watched it dart around and got mesmerised by it's flashy white tail. I don't know whether I lost the front when I hit it (if I did indeed hit it) or whether I lost it when I tried to swerve as I was braking too hard. Same result regardless.
Before I realised it I was sliding down the wrong side of the road swearing inside my helmet while my crash bungs and carbon engine cover were doing there best to minimise the damage to the bike (sliding down the other side of the road)
A car coming the other way stopped to help. I thanked them for not being there 20 seconds earlier.....having said that I might not have tried to swerve if that was the case but will never know.
I looked back up the road to see a black line of R&G plastic but I just felt the urge to get the heck out of there so got on the bike and carried on.....still swearing inside my helmet.
The damage........ bit of a sore wrist, elbow, shoulder, arse, ego, scuffed leathers, gloves, shredded yellow jacket, scuffed mirror, slightly worn front brake lever and bar end, destroyed my front right indicator, scuffed a little bit of the fairing and big scratches all over my exhaust.
Oh....and I scuffed my knee slider too.
Hopefully I've learned my lesson (just relax hit the f*£%^&r).............and by sharing this hopefully no-one will make the same mistake I did.
Looks like I'll be needing the T-Shirt back.
Rosco :(

Re: Got my knee down.......What a plonker
Ohhhh, Ross!
Really sorry to hear this, but relieved to hear you're home.
The adrenaline sure kicks in after an event like this. I think I know how you felt - you just want to get away and back to familiar territory as soon as you can. And all you're thinking is 'a fc&k*ng rabbit!!!'
I do hope you're not too bruised. Take time to check yourself out now you've come down to earth. Don't worry about the bike yet - it took me about a week before I could look at mine in detail after the off. It's all repairable - the 'cat's a tough old beast. You'll be glad you had the bungs and covers.
Let us know how you get on. If there's anything we can do then help please post up.
All the best,
Chris

Bummer...
Glad you're OK and the bike sounds repairable. It's easy to think "what I should have done is this..." but, as I discovered on the way to the ToL, you react instictively and sometimes this is the wrong thing to do - before you know it you're experiencing a crash and thinking, "I shouldn't have done that".
I hope the rabbit got what was coming to it.

Re: Got my knee down.......What a plonker
Bad luck mate - so the 'white tail' you got mesmerised by was on a rabbit of the 4 legged variety not a playboy bunny????
Yep, next time hit the little f****r - i nearly got had by a pesky pheasant on my way home yesterday but by that time i felt too ill to worry about it - i decided if it was that stupid to run in front of me when i was suffering it could die - it changed it's mind!
Glad you're not badly damaged - hope the bike is soon sorted

S**T Ross, thats awful news!
At least you're in one piece and no serious damage was done. The bike is easily fixed.
Glad to hear that you weren't hurt badly.

Oh (sore!) @rse!! Poor you!!
Thank feck you're okay - and like the rest have said the bike's fixable - as long as you are fit and healthy then that the main thing!! Funnily enough my thoughts were exactly the same as Suzie's ..... not like you to get mesmerized by a 'bunny tail'
I suppose the natural instinct is not to hit it, though sometimes the little feckers definately do their level best to dodge enough times so you have no option!! Glad the car stopped, and REALLY glad it wasn't there 20 seconds earlier!!
Take it easy - hope you're all better soon!

Ermmmm, am a bit worried about the "mesmerised by its fluffy white tail" bit,, jeez ross ,all you had to do was get some sandpaper or a grinder for the knee slider, you just wanted to outdo the guy using a robin reliant to scuff them??
couldnt have done it for the video eh-spice it up.
am really glad you seem ok, keep us updated, hope you get sorted, to mirror chris's message, ANY thing i can do to help just let us know

Ross, this, I think, calls for a name change?
Rosco is so last year. DirtBikeDave set the trend.
Currently I'm torn between 'BunnyDodger' or 'BunnyChaser'.
Now I think this needs a vote. Unless you have a preference?
Chris
PS Hope this makes you smile It makes me smile. I am serious!

Rosco,
Sorry to hear your "Tail" of woe.
Seriously though, as others have said "the bike is repairable" so it's good that you are all in order.
Hope you get the bike back in order soon and as inexpensive as possible.

I think you were in a no win situation, hitting it could have had a whole lot of problems too.
Chris is quite right in taking time to make sure you're OK. Sounds like your equipment did its job of minimising injury, but it may take a little time for something to show - I sincerely hope not.
I do not want to detract from your nasty incident, but likewise sharing this, I hope will help (not quite sure how, but keep an eye on your health).
Riding back from the BM and still in Scotland, haring (oops sorry - making good progress) around a bend straight into a line of stationary vehicles. Three choices, hit an artic, oncoming Landy or Armco. Miraculously managed to stop without hitting anything or falling off, I have never been so close to the Pearly Gates.
Amazingly my heart wasn't racing and was remarkably calm. I did mange to utter a mild expletive three times. As I rode off, all I could think was I could have done a better job at swearing if I was about to kill myself. Seriously though, I was terrified.
All I seemed to have hurt was my pride, until just over a week ago when the pain started and the fall out from the shock .. you know the rest.
Being silly for a sec

What a 24-carrot numpty for sure...
As has been said, glad you are OK - adrenalin is quite something that you would get back on and ride off just like that. Don't play "could have beens", no point.
Of course I would have just bunny-hopped over it.

Re: Got my knee down.......What a plonker
Jeez Rosco! And to think after I held everyone up for a while following the bike with the top box that wasn't part of our ride out, you came past and took the lead.... From that point onwards I tried to follow your pace and your back wheel, if at that point you had decided to spare General Woundwort (look it up!) then it could have been a real mess!
Hope you are ok mate and the bikes superficial and can be fixed, at least you walked away to post and tell us all about it.....

Re: Got my knee down.......What a plonker
Sorry to hear that Rosco. At least you are ok, that's the main thing. Even ego's can be repaired.
Years ago I was riding at dusk when this badger appeared right in front of me, like you, brakes slammed on and swerved, fortunately managed to stay on. In my case though, if I had hit said Badger I'd have been off.
Where I live there are pheasants (not peasants) everywhere and I've learnt to just drive straight through them cos they are an accident waiting to happen if you try to avoid them. The near accidents I've had because cars either brake of swerve to avoid them. Nightmare.
Anyway, I digress. Your bike can be fixed, your aches, pains and scratches will soon go. Nothing more serious than that.
Ave em next time.
