Back Armour.... Empty Back Armour....

Post  Guest Wed Aug 19 2009, 21:20

anyone any thoughts or tips on what to buy? Got a crowtree jacket the other day but conscious of the fact there's no back armour in it - my heavy textile came with it and i bought it for my lightweight one but they're both spidi's so i was able to fit them into the jacket. This one has a mesh type lining fixed in so i'll have to have one of the separate type you put on - just wondered if anyone used these and if so what i need to look out for.

Hi Suzie

My cousin talked me into a Knox back protector when I bought his Thundercat.

He tested his out when he was knocked off his previous bike.
I feel quite naked if I ever forget to put it on.........never had to use it (touchwood)
Does make you look a bit like a teenage mutant ninja turtle though Suspect

Whatever you go for .... make sure you get to try it out with what you normally wear on the bike.

Cheers

Hey Suzie,

Same for me with the Knox. Quality. There are cheaper ones that get just as good CE certification that wear like a waistcoat but the fastners are crap around the front. I got one initially off flea bay and the hard velcro strap that fastens around the waist would tear into a t shirt underneath where the hooks don't hit the loops. Ruins the t shirt and looks a bit scabby when walking around a seaside resort on a nice day with the jacket off...

cheers guys

we're a bit thin on the ground round here for places that sell gear so looks like a trip to the big smoke and Hein Gericke and Webbs see if either of them have them - if i turn up at TOL with a headband on you'll know know i've gone turtle Very Happy

I have a Knox too - I think it's called a "Ricochet". It's great because it is long enough to cover the lower back area (which jacket inserts don't), helps keep you warm on a cool day but also rolls up into a very portable size for carrying/storage. I wear it under my leather jacket, although it is a bit snug. Deffo worth trying one on with ALL of your kit on - it goes down low enough to go inside the top of my trousers and you need to be happy about the height it sits at, as it can catch the back of your helmet if not fitted correctly.

Hi Suzie,

Was in Heine Gericke's just an hour ago, (Rode past, saw that sign that says 'Sale' and my bike suddenly stopped, pulled up neatly outside and parked itself, so I had to go in..... Rolling Eyes )

and they had quite a few back protectors, I know some of them have to be fitted properly??

If anyones interested they also had some cheap Heine Gericke/Arlen Ness and Alpine Stars leathers in the sale. deal

Its down Newark road Suzie (Yep, Lincoln-Sorry!!), pull round the street next door and park it there, the road has an odd camber, so be careful when parking!! The chaps in there are very helpful........Unless I just look like a lost soul wandering around aimlessly when I go in!!
