Interesting but at this time of year I'd much prefer a self-cleaning bike...

I was thinking a big bottle of Rain-X and a trigger spray, but you sparked a memory.
I used to put a cap of Cationic Car Shampoo in my car screenwash bottle (do not add in winter*) since it's hydrophobic and built up a film on the windscreen similar to Rain-X (worked a damn treat too), so if that sort of surfactant repels water and associated crap from the windscreen of a car, I'd imagine it would work on bodywork too...and I found this:

*It doesn't fully mix with the screenwash, so at temperatures below about -10°C it causes ice crystals to form instantly on the glass when you try to clean the windscreen.
...it's like instant frosted glass.
