First topic message reminder :

Sorry to say that I've only gone and written off my beloved Thundercat.
Out with Daz, Atholl and H (not from Steps)

Heading to Ullapool and got 12 miles north of Spean Bridge when it happened.
Diesel spills kill (thankfully only the bike after it hit the Armco post) 12 miles north of Spean bridge right hander doing 50-60 in the wet.
Daz in front made it and thankfully Atholl behind made it without hitting me.
Felt it starting to go and by the time I'd swore I was sliding down the road. Didn't think I was braking or accelerating just enough to maintain speed.
Thankfully I escaped with just getting muddy and ripping my waterproofs.
Had that bike 12 and a half years (Spain, Alps, Germany, All over the UK and Ireland, track days) .....Gutted :(

Glad you are and I know what ya saying.

Ya never know, insurance company most likely won't want it, so it'll be stuck in his garage waiting for the day to be resurrected by some means and way.

At least you're OK mate.

I drove up that way on Sunday afternoon, on the way to Ullapool myself (don't eat at The Caledonian Hotel, it's honkin. The Arch Inn is the place to eat.).
There was a skip lorry dropping diesel all over the shop just short of Laggan, I could even smell it through the vents in the car....I wonder if that was the guilty b*stard who did for you. :/

p.s. If it's a write off, could the rear shock have 'fallen off' in transit? (I have a rolling advisory on my own shock)

That was the spot Allan.
Just shy of Laggan.

Bastardo skip lorry.

Atholl managed to do an run and then slide 6ft in his boots where I came off.

I've no idea how both he and Daz managed to stay on.
Could have been even worse.

You've finally killed it!

I'm with DBD mate, it's painful but sometimes it's kinder to say goodbye.

Glad you're OK mate, hope all goes well with the insurance.

Hi Ross,

Just picked up the devastating news! I thought that 'cat was going to live forever. It just never stopped despite.... I'm not going to mention that, or that, or the time..., or that, or..
You, I hope, are OK? Give it a few days to see how you really feel. It'll take longer than that to come to terms with the loss of your beloved Thundercat. My advice, having moved on, is to contemplate something new. But, as ever, your decision. Look forward to finding out what you decide. Til then take care and make sure you are Ok. How long should we place the site into official mourning?

Not yet Davie.

I double checked and it is actually very nearly 14 years I'd had her.

Hopefully I'll get 4 figures for her. Or enough to keep her and build a "Rosco bike Dave"

Cheers

Start with the top bike as that looks cleaner.

It's time that's the important thing, have you got lots to spare? Maybe a winter project?

Engine swap, suspension fetle and throw a new exhaust in there. Build Stevecat's as the project.

Is it viable?
If you go down that route it would be wise to do all the obvious stuff like headstock bearings, swing arm bearings, suspension rebuild, it won't be a cheap fix unfortunately.

I think we all realise that with the age of the Cat, such a rebuild is going to be more a labour of love and affection, rather than a financial exercise Smile
