ICE ~ A Cracking good Idea
In Case of Emergency (ICE) is always a topic we tend to pay lip service to as bikers and perhaps shouldn't.
Here in or on Yamaha-Thundercats, we tend to be a bit more active with our Rides-Out (Bishops Castle, ToL, Wee & Big Macs etc.) than I have been witness to on other biking internet sites.
Usually (and I know Ross does it every time), the organiser of the event asks if you would like to annotate your details for an emregency situation. Such things as contact numbers , insurance, etc.etc.
Well here's a bloody good idea for an ICE Tag. All your info in a compact place easy for the emergency services to find and for you to carry.
Have a look at the ICE link in any of the light blue underlined text and see what you think.
I'd be interested to read your comments on this.

Re: ICE ~ A Cracking good Idea
Yes it is a good idea. When these made their debut they could be read by any type of computer, I see these seem to limit themselves to Microsoft based machines, a potential shortcoming. Apart from that negative view, I believe any form of communication, when you can't, has to be good.
This is especially true if you have allergies or on medication.
I wouldn't go for it though, I'm not one for 'jewelery' and wouldn't get on with the necklace.
Here is an alternate / complementary idea it is free, credit card sized and you can laminate it and pop it in your wallet. This can be used along with a Medic-Alert bracelet, ICE Tag etc.

Re: ICE ~ A Cracking good Idea
All good ideas. Anything like this has to be.
Here is another one.
On your mobile phone, in the contacts section, put in a new contact but put ICE first followed by the name and number. Emergency services will, apparently, check your phone to see if there is anyone they can contact in the event of an emergency.
I have had this on my mobile for quite a few years now. Lets hope though that it is never used.

Yes it is a good idea...........No harm in having lots of different ways to get any important information.
I have the ICE contact in my phone and hope it is never required.

Re: ICE ~ A Cracking good Idea
ICE on your fones a good idea (two numbers), because when I'm looking for patients relatives, a fone and/or a wallet are the obvious place to start. Presuming the fone/wallet belongs to said patient, and said patient isnt also a thief!!
I once looked after a Rider who died, and his fone was constantly ringing, and it was his wife checking on his wearabouts, wasnt the easiest conversation I'd ever had.... :(

Picking up on that quite valid point.SteveCat wrote:Yes it is a good idea. When these made their debut they could be read by any type of computer, I see these seem to limit themselves to Microsoft based machines, a potential shortcoming.
There has to be a reason this company has limited the IT scope of these ICE chips.
Ellie can you shed any light on this one ? Does the NHS use a standard IT system throughout the UK , ie Microsoft based machines ? Or do they have whatever the local authority buy, MAC and the like ?
Re: ICE ~ A Cracking good Idea
In my experience, all the I.T I've used has been Microsoft.
I've just been in contact with the main I.T. desk for the Lincolnshire PCT, who supply the majority of the county, they state they provide Microsoft based systems everywhere, and the majority of the country do also apparently.
Is that of use?

Re: ICE ~ A Cracking good Idea
i've got the ICE wristband which is the basic thing has my name on it and ICE contact name/numbers plus the details in my phone but the only problem with that is it's not that well known so i doubt if anyone would think to look for it on the phone unless of course they were a biker - no one i've spoken to that isn't has heard of it outside really the medical service.

Re: ICE ~ A Cracking good Idea
I'm sure most of the paramedics & ambulance technitions are aware of it, as well as A&E staff. Ellie made that clear.
Really it's for their and the hospitals use and so of no real concern to the general public, as it contains sensitive info on the carrier.
It's good that most bikers are aware of ICE, so if you're riding in a group and heaven forbid it all goes tits up, they would be able to point the medics in the right direction to look for it.
To follow on from Steves post, there are a few more suppliers of ICE type cards, pendents, wrist bracelets etc. Here is another good ICE method to be put in a Hi-Vis place on your helmet.
I just saw the other one mentioned above in MCN this week and thought I'd bring it up as a topic of conversation .

Re: ICE ~ A Cracking good Idea
yes, like i say most medical staff are aware of it and i think others sectors ie police and fire service becoming more au fait. I've seen a few places doing reasonable rates on the USB ones too - lot of the bike mags seem to have deals etc with firms nowadays.
