Hi Dave,

Sorry to hear you've collected a few more points. You'll have to be carefull indeed from now on.

As to how long the points (endorsment) stay on your licence here's the link to dvla with the info.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Might be worth your while and finding out if any of your older ones can be removed now.

Cheers

Cheers Tel, i still got the best part of 2 years to drive carefully...
They stay on for 4 years from date of offence..still all self inflicted so i guess i can't complain.. violin

So unless you really been a naughty boy points stay on for four years, insurance want to know in the past five years

What was nice to see was that if you drive while unfit due to drink then it stays on your licence for eleven whole years.

Drink or drugs
Offence codes DR10 to DR30 must stay on a driving licence for eleven years from date of conviction.

DR10 Driving or attempting to drive with alcohol level above limit
DR20 Driving or attempting to drive while unfit through drink
DR30 Driving or attempting to drive then failing to supply a specimen for analysis

HOWEVER if you have actually killed someone through reckless driving it's only four years:

Reckless/dangerous driving
Offence codes DD40 to DD80 must stay on a driving licence for four years from date of conviction.

DD60 Manslaughter or culpable homicide while driving a vehicle
DD80 Causing death by dangerous driving

So if I getted hammered and kill someone while driving, can I argue my case and try to convince them that I was also driving dangerously then strike a deal so that the points only stay on the licence for about 8 years???

lol - if it's any consolation whilst they don't stay on your licence they do stay on your licence record with DVLA - how's that for logic!

And don't worry cos sometimes you can accrue points that stay til after you get your licence back - i've seen people with 20 odd on theirs Shocked
