Re: northampton , anybody there?
As he didnt say he'd bought it, I assumed that he was looking at it, you know how normally looking at a bike before you buy it, especially off ebay and if its like 340 miles away.......
I dont mind going to look at it assuming its not too far away from me, though I can't say I'll be the best person for looking at it but can at least compare it to mine.

First question to ask him is why has the frame been painted? You don't know whats under there.

Re: northampton , anybody there?
The bike seems familiar, there was one on here with a painted frame, worth looking it up.
Tom, unless you can get close to that price for your bike, I think you would be better off fixing the crack in the fairing. You may have said where the crack is - I'm not going to look for that, rather you can tell us again.
upgrade from 1999 to 2000? I wouldn't bother. He's asking more for a 2000 model with more mileage than my 2003 bike - the age doesn't matter that much, they are all 'old' bikes - the condition of it is more important.

Re: northampton , anybody there?
as happy as I would be to go and check the bike out tom I agree with what steve says, for the sake of a cracked fairing and a few less miles is it really worth the change, I dont know how you were planning on getting there either, Northampton is a long long way from glasgow, so when you've factored in rail fares to get there, and the time that will take as northampton isnt really a main line destination, also unless ya man selling is close to the station its probably going to be a taxi ride to his place (this is unless you get there by driving) then also facotr in the cost of fuel to ride back. your £1800 is probably more like £2000...
not trying to deter or put you off, just wouldnt want you to make the commitment for something that in a few months as before with your bikes you might want to change. The cat is a great bike and does everything (I need it for at least) well, but maybe change and get something newer and different, being in glasgow area theres bound to be lots of choice.
Also I might look at the bike if I did go to see it and think it was ok, you then may come and get it and think its a total pup.
again not trying to put you off changing as that's entirely up to you, but just some things I would consider if I were in your position

Re: northampton , anybody there?
if its just cosmetics your going on, why not get a set of the fairings off ebay, the china specials? much much cheaper and you can always sell the current fairings to part pay for them maybe?
as for age, means nowt, I look after my bike i service it once a year and clean it every few weeks (cant quite stretch to rosco levels) i ride it a fair ammount, yet it still looks new and i have had compliments from people saying how new it looks. bikes need a bit of looking after they dont does it themselves sadly!

Re: northampton , anybody there?
If you want a bike with better looks you can paint or vinyl wrap your current bike in so many different ways. The possibilities are endless and only limited by your imagination.
You can change your bike into this, for example.

Other colours are available.
Speak to member [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and he can tell you how much new paint will cost.

Re: northampton , anybody there?
In your prevous post you ask how much we think yours is worth, you say it's a 99 with 31000 miles , so 2000 more than the bike your looking at and it's a 2000 , which could mean it's two months newer , that's a stupid reason to buy it , by the time you've got it home and shown it off round ya mates you'll pur those 2000 miles on it then it'll be the same as yours . If you have 1800 go out get a wrap done in what ever colour you want . Get the frame painted at a shop and there you go a nicer looking bike with some money left in your pocket.
