Its with great sadness Empty Its with great sadness

Post  terry lees Sat Jun 22 2013, 12:08

It is with great sadness that I have to announce the disposal of my beloved FJR. This is the fourth one that I have owned and I have probably done about 120,000 miles on them in total. At my tender age the bike has just become too heavy and too tall (its not grown its me that's shrunk) to manoeuvre about, fine on the move, but just too heavy. The good news is that it will be replaced by a Honda cbf1000 which is 50 kilos lighter, and I can get my feet flat on the ground. The slight downside is that it is chain drive, I swore I'd never own another chain driven bike, having owned 2 Pan Europeans before my FJRs. Anyway the deed is done, I've bought a 2012 model with 3,800 miles on it. It has genuine Honda panniers and topbox heated grips, and fairing lowers, and 15 months of Honda warranty remaining. Further good news is that a certain Mr. Eddie has decided he would kike the FJR so it will be staying in the family as it were.

It will be delivered in about 10 days time Tel, and although you have posted instructions on how to do it, I very much doubt that it is within my capabilities. (to post pictures that is)

Maybe Fi, suppose I'll need somewhere to live and the kennel hasn't been built yet!

I'll help Tes sort some photos out when I get back ashore.

Wow Terry, what do you call a mid-life crisis at your age?

Well done for modernising.
Biggest problem is going to be bending down to inspect the chain rofl

Hope you get on well with your new steed. I doubt you'll be any slower; maybe a bit faster!

I hope you and your new bike will make it to the BBQ in Aug btw - my dad has been talking about getting a bike for at least 30 years, and still appears not to have got around to it - maybe you could inspire him? Very Happy

one of my favourite memories of bc was of me there, going a million miles an hour doing an impression of rossi's better talented brother, then upcomes what I first thought was the hms ark royal zooming past and elegantly gliding round the bends. of course when I finally caught up it was the fjr and its ginormous panniers. I thought to myself "Christ chris, you've got a lot to learn".

Not sure if I'm ready for that Very Happy, I very much doubt that'll be the case Chris.

All the best with your new acquisition Terry. I too vowed I'd never go back to chain after decades of shaft drives. Chain technology has come a long way and if you fit a Scottoiler, it's nearly as good as the shafties.
Sounds a good buy great
