Where can I try on a Shoei Helmet Empty Where can I try on a Shoei Helmet

Post  stevemcc Wed Jun 19 2013, 22:23

I'm looking at a replacement helmet and quite like the look of some Shoei lids (XR1100)

So earlier today after getting a shiny new set of Pirelli Angel STs fitted I took myself shopping down to MegaMotorcycle store in Swindon.
Hundreds of lids in there but I'd say 80% of them are HJC, 10% are Shark and the other 10% are of cheapy makes i've never heard of.
Now I'm no snob and dont mind wearing a HJC but the only one that fits me is their most expensive one (RPHA 10+) at around £300-£400 dependant on colours.

So of I went to Blades around the corner and low and behold the same thing, nearly all HJC. Not a Shoei or Arai in sight.
Right! I thought I'm heading up to towards Witney this afternoon I'll pop into Hein Gerickes' Oxford Branch, once there I once again was disappointed by their lack of choice and lack of different helmet sizes.(I need an XL).
I understand from one of the staff there that HJC has a distribution centre in Witney so thats maybe why this area is flooded with them.

So the question is: Does anywhere in the south or west of England still stock Shoei or Arai helmets?

I bought my XR1100 from the place on the Dorchester bypass, next to H Cafe, between Oxford and Reading.

I bought a Shoei Qwest a couple of months ago and was lucky that J&S had some in stock to try on.
Closest one to you is in Bristol. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

(Bought the Qwest due to the rave reviews it got on low noise levels.)

Thanks guys

Think i'll give J&S a bell in Brizzol see what they have in stock.

Theres a few more bike places in Brizzol too (Fowlers & Riders that I know of) so could make for a good little run, should scrub in my tyres nicely.

Good luck. Cool

A bit raging btw, I see the Qwest TC2 has been reduced to £270...grumpy (I paid full whack for it two months ago.)

p.s. some of them come with a free pinlock anti-mist visor, so might be worth asking which ones do before making your mind up (it'll save you £25)

If your back around oxford way you could try Onyerbike they are between Bicester and Aylesbury. They had a good selection of shoei helmets last time I was there.

Megamotorcycle store in Swindon are selling the Ben Spies 2012 R-Pha HERE for £229, however its the R-Pha and not the Rpha plus, They have both helmets in the store and I compared them side by side, the plus looks like it has a slightly plusher liner and a modified front vent. Not convinced its worth an extra £200 though. I actually prefer the design of the older lid.
To be honest I think i'm past the stage of wanting 'monster' in dayglo green painted on my helmet.

I must say the vents on the plus seem better , as it is a gp helmet , you have to tilt quite forward to get any use of the lower vent
