Just doesn''t sound right
Hi All,
After a year out of the country where Bryan looked after my bike, I've been using it this summer. When I first started up the bike, I forgot to drain out the old fuel, so the thing was really lumpy struggling to pull away etc. I used the bad approach of getting the thing to the redline to clean out the carbs with fresh fuel in there.
Since then, the bike has been a little lumpy at low revs. After warming up, its appears to be more or less fine. With higher revs, its its old self.
But when I got back from a run this morning, the engine just doesn't sound quite right.
I've had the cat for 6 years now, so know what it used to sound like, but can't really explain it.
I'm assuming I have some crap in my carbs still, but wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions before I start pulling it all apart.
To try and explain what it sounds like, its just a subtle noise under the normal rattles of the engine.
Can't be much more specific - will go outside and have a listen and see if I can find anything obvious.
Anyway - hello all and I hope to say hi to anybody who's in the north west soon.
Simon

Re: Just doesn't sound right
Don't worry guys - sounds like its getting better after all the old fuel additive I could find got dumped in and some more fresh fuel.
Will run it for a while and then clean the carbs out properly.

Re: Just doesn't sound right
Hi Fella and welcome home,
Now this may sound a bit daft but in the known issuses pdf booklet on site there is a bit about running lumpy and it turned out to be loose battery connections,
Silly but worth a look, if only to clean them up and put some protective gel on em and make sure they are tight.
regards
Tel

Thanks Tel,
Did actually check out the old FAQ just in case.
I did check the battery terminals, but that wasn't it. I recently replaced the dead battery from when I was away as well, so know its not that.
Does appear to be getting better, so I expect it will sort itself out with the continual thrashing.
Just need somebody to ride with now.....

Re: Just doesn't sound right
Thanks for the suggestion guys.
After a good thrashing and another tank of new fuel, it feels and sounds much better.
I'll keep my fingers crossed and see how we go.
