South Glos and Wilts Sat 25 May
First topic message reminder :
I put up a route last week to find there was some interest so I went to one of the stops (Cotswolds Airport) to recce it and it would be a massive shame not to have that as the lunch stop so I have completley changed the route to fit in around this, hence the new thread.
Saturday May 25th start at 10:00. It is in four legs, each about 30 miles and 1 hour long
Starting from Morrisons in Chippenham (3 miles south and only two turns from M4 junction 17) and ending at the Red Lion pub in Avebury about 16:00.
There is a morning break (20mins), a lunch break (1hr 20 mins), afternoon break (20 mins) open for discussion on the lengths but I think these would be good.
It's about 132 miles all round so fill up before we set off and you should be fine, even on my BlackBird the fuel light will probably ping on just as we enter the car park at the last stop BUT I'll ask at the end of the third leg and if any one wants fuel we will get it when we start the last leg.
Do us all a favour and fill up at Morrison's petrol station before coming around to the entrance to meet us, we will fill up at Morrison's again at a later stop to allow for any thirsty bikes. Meeting point is past the entrance, so follow the carpark all the way around until you find the bunch of lost looking bikers.
Leg 1 – 33 miles, 1 hour
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
-10:00 Start
-Out of Morrisons and south around Chippenham and towards Melksham on A350
-Take left to go through Lacock and out east past the Abbey then south down Forest Lane towards Melksham and out east on A3102 to the end
-South on A342 into Devizes, skirt around the top of Devizes and out North East on A361, over the A4, through Avebury and into Wroughton
-Stop at White Hart pub for first break
-11:00 Stop
Leg 2 – 31 miles, 50 mins
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
-11:20 Start
-Take right out of pub car park then immediate left at the lights to junction 16 M4, first exit to head around the top of Royal Wooton Basset and out on B4042
-Under the motorway and take right on to go North on B4696
-Take left onto B4040 towards Malmesbury and go north on A489 as you get to Malmesbury. Follow this all the way up through Kemble until it ends
-Take left on to A433 away from Cirencester and then left again into Cotswold Airport. Keep following the road and keep any buildings to your left when you think you may have taken the wrong entrance, go for another 100 yards and that’s where they have put the building signs to point you towards the AV8 café
-12:10 Stop
Leg 3 – 32 miles, 1 hour
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
-13:30 Start
-Leave the airport and go left to head South West on A433 towards and through Tetbury to carry on the A433
-Take right up Bowldown Road then left to head South West on A46 through Dunkirk (yes Dunkirk..) and towards the M4
-Take left to head east on the B4040 and go through Acton Turville, over the motorway, passed Castle Combe circuit and the left on to A420 towards Chippenham then right after a few hundred yards into Allington Farm shop
- 14:30 Stop
Leg 4 – 36 miles, 1 hour
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
-14:50 Start
-Take right to exit farm shop car park, then right again on to A420 towards Chippenham
-Take fourth exit on roundabout with A350 (take care, there is a complete lack of lane discipline on all roundabouts around Chippenham, I kid you not) to head south around Chippenham on the A350
-Across two more roundabouts, the second roundabout crosses the A4 and you will see a McDonalds on your left, carry on straight over to stay on the A350
-The next roundabout again carry on the A350, it is the third exit at apporx 2 O’clock as you look at the roundabout, take EXTRA care here, there are two lanes onto the round about and most people stay in the left lane without an indicator on to effectively take a right like we want to so be careful, it really is that bad around here
-Take left to go through Lacock again and out east past the Abbey but this time we stay on this road until the end
-Take a right to go south on A342, through Sandy Lane, into a 50 limit and take a left on to the A3102 towards Calne
-Take a right tohead East out of Calne on the A4 through Cherill and follow the A4 into Marlborough
-Through Marlborough on the famous High Street, then left to follow Free’s Avenue past the golf course, through some nice twisties to take a left on to the A4361 to head south into Avebury, into the Red Lion car park for a googbye drinky poo
-15:50 Stop
Any takers

Re: South Glos and Wilts Sat 25 May
Awesome, hope to see you there.
Also Mr France, I have just put the route in to the sat nav and that is telling me it will be about 45 mins per leg and not the 1hr that Googlemaps said it would be, either way it's a decent run for each leg.
Looking forward to finally meeting some of you.
