Re: Speedo bulb blown
Hi Chris.
Yes you can change it.....
I'm not 100% sure but I don't think it is illegal as it isn't checked (as far as i know) under the MOT.
How to change it......You'll need a good quality philips-head screwdriver.
The black plastic screen pillar covers are held on with a few screws.
The screen it held on with 6 plastic (be careful not to knarl them) screws.
After that I can't remember in detail but I think you should be able to see a couple of screws holding the black plastic dial surround.
With a bit of encouragement (little bit of bending) and negotiating this should reveal the dials.
Can't quite remember if something holds the dials on and whether you need to remove it or not......sorry.
You need to get round the back of it somehow to access all the gubbings.
The bulb housings just pull out from memory.
Anyhoos - just found this on a previous thread

weasley wrote:You just need new bulbs and slender hands. There are a few posts about how to replace them - it's a job I have to do as well. From memory you have to take the screen off (dead easy) and maybe some of the top inner cockpit panels (also easy) to get access to the little wedge bulbs. Some people upgrade to LEDs at this point, but you'll need ones that fit the restricted space.
It's a couple of quid and maybe half an hour's work.
Here's what you're after.
Have a look at this too for hints and tips.

Re: Speedo bulb blown
I did this a few months ago and was pretty much as stated. If you're doing it, do all 4 to save you having to do it all again 2 days later!
I went for ages with no speedo lighting, including an MoT.

If you change to LED's I found that I could not put an LED in the Fuel light as it makes it light up all the time.

Re: Speedo bulb blown
I only did the dial illumination, not the warning bulbs. I'd stay away from LEDs for indicators and fuel anyway, due to how the circuits work. You can get LEDs for illumination but need ones that will physically fit AND give a diffuse light pattern - I went with regular 5W wedge bulbs, which are slightly brighter than the stock 3.2W ones.

Re: Speedo bulb blown
I did this job last weekend. very easy. The 3w capless bulbs are £3.45 for ten on ebay....or £2 each in Halfords!
