Indeed (although there is, apparently, an airworthy Shackleton still in existence). In fact this same weekend I saw the BoB Memorial flypast at CarFest (the reason I wasn't at ToL), where the Lancaster was accompanied by two Spitfires.

And the Vulcan gave a quick demo too - I haven't seen a flying Vulcan for YEARS - really nice to see (and hear!) it again.

Glad ToL survived the Bank Holiday weather/traffic/attendance - hope to see you next year!

I believe the airworthy Shack is in the US. The South Africans had one airworthy until the 90's, it crashed landed in transit to Europe I think.
There is a complete one that run at some of its' engines at Coventy airport. The RAF flew them operationally until 1991!

I used to live where the Lancaster is based and they used to hold battle reenactment nights with fireworks and the Lanc would taxi up and down the runway. Took my daughter when she was a year old and she fell asleep on the runway and never knew a thing!

I remember! I lived in Lossiemouth for a while in the 70s and they were a common sight.

I remember being challenged .... It was the grass growing in the road that led me to believe we had taken a wrong turn.

And I got the p155 taken out of me for taking you lot to Fairy Glen on Skye. At least the grass was in the fields.
