It is fine Tom.

As has been said before the way it fits is more important.

I have a Caberg flip front helmet - at £100 it was good value for what it was (good star protection rating, integral sun visor, flip front) but it is a bit noisy.

The fit is good (I tried one on in a dealer then ordered the same size online..) but the noise comes from a less than perfect fit around the gaps in the helmet where it flips up. Not awful but a day spent above 70 will make your ears sing...! If you wear earplugs then not a problem.

You will already be going deaf (pardon?) it's a one way disability that grows with the miles and it's not recoverable rofl ...earplugs are the only thing that works for us. Tinitus will occur has you get older. Its not the air getting into the lid but going around it and any bumps, like vents and buttons will only increase the noise, bike touring screens help but not much because its the side wind that gets us so the screens need extending sideways so much so that they look really stupid.

I still nip out to town without earplugs if riding slow but longer rides and any speed and it's earplugs for me. It makes the ride much less stressful because noise is a pollution even to us who like to make it. Earplugs sound odd at first but are wonderful. I'll stop the bike and put them in if I forget, I've loads in different jackets and panniers, under the seat because i loose them plus they get mucky

This post is quite misleading as the bottom lid link goes to a different make of lid but similar colour...it's not a Caberg that they send out

Agree with Bogtrotters comments regarding the earplugs, doesn't matter how tough you are, how high your pain tolerance is, how well you cope in a fight and that Marley & Me didn't make you cry.

Without a very well fitting helmet that keeps out wind noise and/or earplugs you affect your hearing and ultimately end up deaf and seriously debilitated. Then all the punches in the world that you can handle wont mean diddly...

And yeah Marley & Me and Hatchi, A Dogs Tale had me skriking Smile

why dont you just get what you like, everyone is going have differing opinions on what they want in a helmet and their gear.

You dont seem to take peoples well thought out advice, find something you like, try it if it fits buy it, it aint rocket science ..........

You posted a picture of a Caberg £150 lid..and labeled it £35 and I for one would buy a Caberg at that price but when I looked to buy the lid then your link took me to a completely different helmet that's a just a similar colour and not a Caberg.

Its a bit like putting a picture of a real bottle of Whisky at £3 only to find its a bottle of shandy when in the store

Buy, don't buy, beyond caring but please dont ask for advice if you dont want to take it. I don't care what anyone says though you GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR and even if something had a SHARP rating of 100 paying £35 for an item designed to protect your most valuable asset, the build quality will be shocking.

Spend £150 less on your new bike and put it toward the helmet budget, cheaper bike can be fixed if it breaks down, try applying that logic to your face or your skull!!

Helmet - Full face VS Flip Front - Page 2 Empty Re: Helmet - Full face VS Flip Front

Post  Guest Sat Aug 25 2012, 04:47

It's very late (or very early) and I can't sleep.
For what it's worth, I tried a caberg 407 in a shop, the fit was great, so I bought one cheap, second hand on ebay, took it for a couple of rides, found it comfortable (if a tad noisy through the bottom) so I went and bought a new one and I'm happy with it.
Earplugs every time (except for v short trips) - they actually filter out noise and help you hear better.
