Insurance Increase ?
Anyone noticed a sharp rise in premiums?
I'm being told they have gone up 30-50%, with my renewal being 'discounted' to a 50% increase. Their first attempt at getting rid of me they had quoted an increase of 215%
It was cheaper to insure two bikes last year than just one now.
Wonder if the riots prompted this :(

Re: Insurance Increase ?
I noticed when I tried to reinsure my X5 last year, even though I was one year older (and allegedly wiser), with a years more no claims, they tried to increase my Premium by 40% citing the number of claims and personal injury claims responsible for the hike in price.
This was blanket when I tried to shop around and I think that it is disgusting but at the end of the day our hands are tied!!
Bikeinsurance was in my opinion extremely expensive but I just put that down to me being a new rider on a sporty bike and am hoping it will drop when I renew as long as my no claims is intact.

Re: Insurance Increase ?
Limited number of underwriters, so shopping around might not yield much better - still gong to try and then give CN a target.
Wouldn't have thought they had much excuse with 11 years NCB and IAM.
I did think when I saw that furniture store up in flames less than 3 miles from me that I'd be paying for it :(

Re: Insurance Increase ?
Yep my renewal was over double despite the bike dropping in value & another years no claims intact, Did the usual shopping around & again MCN compare came out best with exactly the same broker & underwriter as last year but with a generous hike & a higher excess. Looks like we are all gonna get hit

Re: Insurance Increase ?
Apparently because of the "apparent obvious discounts" insurers used to offer for IAM's, ROSPA, Bikesafe etc and the number of riders taking these additional courses and qualifications in an attempt to reduce their premiums insurers and underwriters no longer hold them in the same regard or adjust premiums accordingly.
Speaking to a friend who works for Swinton Insurance organising Motor Trader Policies he said it is nothing more than a post code lottery nowadays. Policies are based on geagraphical claim rates and nothing more. Even no claims bonus holds less creedance.

Re: Insurance Increase ?
Sorry to hear that Steve.
I renewed at the start of the year with Carole Nash - a slight increase but since I get the breakdown / recovery thrown in I still think it was worth it. About £130 or thereabouts I think - fully comp.
I'll probably renew again next year.
Always, always, always worth shopping around though.
Even to let the current one expire and then become a new customer with the old mob bizarrely.

Re: Insurance Increase ?
I've never paid more than £200 a year despite only having passed my test in '08.
The Triumph is only a few pence more than the 'cat but it will be interesting to see what they quote when it's due for renewal
I've been with Swinton for 3 years and they always come out cheapest for me.
Piddles me off how everything's gone up and my wages haven't. In the NHS we havn't had a Payrise for yonks.
Food is ridiculously expensive & the bills are ever increasing. I've never earned so much yet seem to have less & less spare money!!

Re: Insurance Increase ?
Well the Insurance company won (no surprise there). Called the previous places I used and all were more expensive and none were interested in trying to re-work the quote when I told them they were too high.
I am wondering if I'm losing my bargaining abilities, spent 45 mins haggling and got it reduced by £10 Very much a take it or leave it attitude.

Re: Insurance Increase ?
I have gone off trying to fill in forms for Insurance quotes online. I don't care for all the phone calls I get for weeks afterwards.
Also, whilst it seems at the surface all polices seem equal, they aren't. Likewise what one rider requires is of no benefit to another. My biking is, for the most part recreational and it is not uncommon for me to be found in far flung places. Knowing I can get home after a breakdown or accident is important to me. Even so I'm still smarting at having to pay nearly £240.
A valid point was highlighted by Terry Lees last year, hence my haggling with Carole Nash [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I'm glad you managed to get Net Pig to reduce your premium Steve. hat off to you mate, I'd have walked away from the idea of biking in the UK with a £800 ins bill. eBike tried by quoting me £3 000 for cover on my £1 800 valued 'Cat a few years ago!

Steve,
Get a free number at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] set to route to your house number. You can then use the free 0845 on the compare sites then ditch the free number when your done. It's all free unless you want to direct the free number to a mobile.

Re: Insurance Increase ?
I just don't give them my number at all.
If someone around my area has 299999 as their number, the poor buggers must be getting phone spammed to death.
Btw, by far the worst culprit I've had for phone spam was Swinton.
I don't even look at their quotes any more on the back of the hassle, so they've lost a potential customer.
(The yourfreenumber link is dead )
Oh, I'm registered with TPS as well

Pity there isn't a service like that which charges £1+ a minute and shares the proceeds with me. I could hook it up to the PC and play hideous music and keep reminding them just how much I value their call [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I know what you are saying Tom but it's the personal injury claims from an accident for the likes of injury or death that are the big payouts for the insurance companies,, can run into millions.

I just put a false number in & a false email then they leave you alone!
