Cheap personalised ear plug/earphone solution experiment
i like to listen to music when I'm out and about on 2 wheels and have tried a few various different options..
Different types of in ear (apple style) earphones which work well when they stay in but usually end up with one falling out halfway through the ride... For the past couple of years i have retrofitted a set of headphones which i basically chopped down and installed inside my lid..This works well but is not the best ,and pretty useless once you start hitting motorway speeds. so i've been researching other options...
Seems to me the best option is these personalised moulded ear phones which i know a couple of our fellow members already have, Terry lees and Chris eddie went for this option and swear by it.. It's an expensive option (in excess of £100) so i think i may have found an easy similar alternative which should cost about £20 - £30 max and be just as good.........(has a certain amount of DIY involved)
Watch this space.. Awaiting on a few bits arriving and will post up results and details if it works hopefully within a week.

I use Panasonic in ear head phones like these [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
And have never had a problem , they sit better in the ear as there off set still get some wind noise at high speed but I just turn up the music

I've used the in ear ones before as well but they had a habit of popping out when putting my lid on. And they made my ears sore after a while.

Re: Cheap personalised ear plug/earphone solution experiment
Guaranteed to blow your eardrums if riding with a bit of pace..
(Also note the tiny volume control you're expected to be able to work with cold hands and winter gloves..I doubt it's big enough to even find with gloves on.*)
You have to seal the ear canal or you end up cranking up the volume as the wind noise from the helmet increases.
I toyed with in ear phones, but binned it as a bad idea, so I'll be watching this thread with interest.
*my knob is at least twice as big as that and I can barley find it with gloves on..

Re: Cheap personalised ear plug/earphone solution experiment
I use in-ear phones when I want to use the satnav. They are not quite as good as earplugs at reducing noise, but they're good enough for long distance and I can hear the satnav easily (sometimes it makes me jump if it suddenly chimes in after a long period of silence!). They're not quite as comfortable as earplugs but they stay in and I've ridden all day with no issues. They're Sennheiser ones (can't remember the model name).

It was Sennies I used as well. Better than any others I'd tried.

etymotic er6i's are my personal favs, very comfortable great sound and tiny to so they don't move around much.
not sure if they are still made, but am interested to see what DBD comes up with

Right. Finished tested and bloody ace.
Bought this from amazon @£13.99
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
You could stop here if you just want decent earplugs.
Next I bought a set of small in ear headphone. Got a bargain in currys. Reduced from £17.99 to £3.45. you can use your own.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Follow the instructions on the earplug mould kit then take the little mushroom rubbers of the earphones( as in above pic) and jam them into you ears with the mould putty already in there. Work it in and cover them with the mould putty.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Wait 10 mins. I did one lug at a time.
When they've set take them out and trim with a sharp knife. I used a Stanley.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
And you even get a bag to keep em in
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Loud music and work well as just normal ear plug. And major plus is they don't fall oot and total cost including the earphones was under £20.
Enjoy.

Re: Cheap personalised ear plug/earphone solution experiment
i actually produced artworks in silicone when i was self employed, and have contacts who could make these quite easily, or i could do it myself ... never thought to give it a go tbh, but if i can produce a whole lifesize replica baby in silicone , im pretty sure earplugs would be a doddle , lol

I know I've seen the results, but still can't get the image out of my head of DBD lying on the floor whilst the misses pours plaster of paris into his ears..... about a litre and a half!
Only joking. Must say the inside of you ears are as attractive as the outside

Littlecat that is amazing!
Now if you can make one that sits on the tank, holding onto the top of the screen, that I can take out for a spin......
'Yes officer, what was I thinking of officer. '

Bugger... :(
Left one went well, but the right phone twisted sideways for some bizarre reason.
Ah, well £14 down the drain.. :(
