She rides like a dream!!
Hello Everyone
My dad finally gave up his baby to me yesterday, and what an i say, the Thundercat is an incredible bike!
Despite the restriction (which apparently is noticeable at all) it seems very powerful, although i have not ridden anything above a 125.
Despite the size shes handles flawlessly! Also i have a high resolution picture of my bike which was taken by DK books and is featured int the new 'bike book' which published in April 2012! (If you have this book then the thundercat you can see is my very bike, and you will see an acknowledgement to my dad, Nigel Cocks in the back - how exciting!)
My baby!
Also i have a few questions about the bike which are probably asked regularly.
Firstly i notice there is no fuel gauge on the dials, and riding yesterday the fuel light came on, so i found the nearest pumps and filled up. Does anybody know how many miles approx i have before i get dangerous low on fuel (although i plan to fill it up often) and secondly the bike took around £16 worth of fuel (13-14ltrs??) is that a full tank? and how many miles would this approx get me through?
Also, the headlights seemed very dull, even in a full night sky. Is this normal? or should i upgrade the bulb?
Regards Lewis

Re: She rides like a dream!!
Hi Lewis,
In general, a tank full to the gunnels will get you on average 175+ miles
Best way to test this is to fill her up , re set your trip clock to zero and ride your style to the fuel light coming on again.
Note how many miles you've done.
Reset trip, refuel and do it again, repeat a couple of times.
You'll find your level. Some have reported 220 miles plus on a tank from fuel up to light on. Some have said 85 . . . but they were "pressing on"
I think that about covers the fuel question.
The standard headlight on the cat is known to be pants
Look in the workshop section (electrics & lighting) and you'll find a wealth of info on HiD, Phillips and other headlight fixes
Welcome by the way.

Re: She rides like a dream!!
Welcome Lewis, I bought a cat because it was supposedly the best bike restricted, I had two years of fun on mine and It built my confidence.
Your two years will fly! Enjoy it and ride safely.

Re: She rides like a dream!!
I'd say 200 miles to a tank seems about the average for mixed riding (Normal plus some scratching).
One thing that worries me though is you say £16 filled her up?
Now unless you have found somewhere where fuel is still VERY cheap that sounds wrong.
From empty to full mine now costs about £22ish pounds which is at £1.39 a litre ish.
The furthest I have pushed the 'Reserve' is 15 miles.
Nice bike though, looks like the best colours are making a comeback, Tom will be so happy

Re: She rides like a dream!!
22 - 23 pound is what it costs me depending on the price per ltr and think it took about 16.5ltrs. I had been particularly 'progressive' on this tank and only got 157 miles.
If the light hasn't come on by 160mile I will be looking for a fill up as you never know how far the next station will be.

From a full tank to empty, £27.36 which is a total of 19.7ltrs. I always fill the bike on the side stand. That is just about drained dry.

Re: She rides like a dream!!
Mine is in KM but converted get around 195miles from brimmed to light coming on but have pushed another 20 miles after that. My riding however is quite conservative as I've not been riding long so tend to take things a bit easy, (at the moment!!)

Re: She rides like a dream!!
Looking good Lewis.
The fuel range can vary, you are restricted so you might find you are using more. However the amount you put in doesn't sound right, should be more 16l. Possibly you filled it on the side stand whilst off the bike?
I've never seen the light come on with my current 'Cat, but with the previous one I did do over 30 miles with the light on (not good on yer nerves though). That bike used to do 180-200 miles before the light coming on, the current one is doing around 230 till light on.
You may have noticed some of us have a Fuelly icon below our posts, you can click on any of them and look at what we are getting. I always get poor mileage when on the motorway, you'll see those are the 46 odd MPG fill-ups.

Same here, did 15 miles with the Res light on this morning, filled up just outside work on the way home, £23.25.
Re: She rides like a dream!!
Hi mate, I am the same as Dai San, 200 miles with mixed riding. The reserve is 4 litres, I have managed to get 30+ miles from it
Try sitting on the bike when fuelling up so its level as £16? You buying yours from the black market?!?

Re: She rides like a dream!!
Hi Lewis
You and Aris should team up as you've got the same bike and interesting site names that should just go together.
That is a very shiny example you have there - Nice one Nigel!
All your questions appear to have been answered thus far.
On the light front I'd say the best light I've seen on a cat is the HID but mine recently failed its MOT. I don't think my tester particularly liked them anyway although it had passed there previously (on older light test machine).
Food for thought?!?
Conclusion - A 'brighter' bulb is cheaper improvement that should have no issues with MOT although my personal opinion is that HID is still better.
If some of the folks at Bishops Castle get together maybe they could do some comparison tests for you.
Cheers
Rosco
