Re: And so it begins :o))
I've only been to the Isle of Widget once, and didn't see much of it.
I was driving to a local job in Edinburgh last year when I was told to turn around, get home and get some sleep.
For some bizarre reason, even though we have offices in Manchester, Birmingham, Egham and Rochester, I had to drive down to Southampton the next day, put in a night shift on the IoW, get a quick kip and then drive home again.
It was a pain in the ass...literally.

I.O.W would be great, done 3 Bike weekends there when I was with the Barrel Bikers. Great crack.
If you don't want to camp I can highly recommend the White Mouse pub B&B great food, great bar and (was) great prices.

Re: And so it begins :o))
Is it possible to make a ride out last a whole day on the island?

It's the Isle of Wight not the Isle of Man
Besides, couple of laps should do it

Errr, isn't the IOM quite a bit bigger than the IOW? Maybe we can do time trials around the coastline

Re: And so it begins :o))
I've tended to do the island 'anti clockwise'.
The Needles is an essential visit, it can be seen from the car park - best though from the end of the headland but that means a bit of a hike, I've done it in bike gear not really recommended.
The coastal road you haven't marked in your map is also good. The view from the hill outside Blackgang is well worth it (on a good day).
The Wight Mouse, as mentioned, has a good reputation, although I'm not sure what wrong the evening we had a meal there.

Re: And so it begins :o))
Makes no difference, one goes to Fishguard and the other to Cowes - easier to meet up IOW side than on the mainland. I go from Portsmouth coz it's easier and also the last time I set sail from Southampton I ended up in South Africa
You like to pop over and have a squiz at a route?

(He just went round and round the IoW until everyone got dizzy )
Re: And so it begins :o))
No , but do know his Welsh cousin quite well. He can also make you dizzy if taken in large doses

Re: And so it begins :o))
Appreciate the feedback, but was just playing with google maps and zig-zaging the route just to get the miles in. By no means a route or clockwise/anti-clockwise direction. Glads it seems to have kick started an idea even if it only finishes up as a recce.SteveCat wrote:I've tended to do the island 'anti clockwise'.

No hikes please . . . can't do 'em anymore . . . fact anything over 20-25 metres is out of my range these days
Thought the ferry (well one of them) went into Ryde ?
I know there's plenty of sights to see. Last time I was on Widget we watched the dinosaurs paddlin in Sandown Bay
Re: And so it begins :o))

Re: And so it begins :o))
I don't see anything remotely connected with what the riding is like on the roads there, it's all fish teas, scones and views so far.
..from what I recall it was (even at night) pretty dull.
There's no way you'd be able to hit 150mph
