I hear what your saying but a major reason for clocking up 9k in 6 months is because - have bike will travel. I find it part of the fun/ adventure.

I'm sure Stevecat will have another ride out down south this year that won't be too far from you. I travelled down and met them up part way through the ride.

Chin up. salute

Nope not at all . . . . . Vent away .. .. .. but, well . . .

S'just that Rosco & DBD manage to come down from Glascow/Edinburgh way to Bishops Castle for the meets.

You're right in a way the site/forum has been going for ten + years now so some of us do know one another and have become friends.

But that's because we overcame our pre-concepts of each-other being mad axe murderers, put a few miles under our belts and made one of the group rides.

Topcatbones often comes up from Exeter to our meets, and alas his West Country Jaunt was the last (big) southern ride-out.
You fancy setting one up Daaahn Saaafff ? We'd delight in the change of scenery Smile

You're not far from me and I've been to a few meets; Welshpool, North Lincolnshire, Exeter and others. I'm by no means a long-distance rider, but the trek is worth it for a weekend of good riding and great laughs. I'm friends with people I would never have met but for this forum.

There are a few of us down our way too, we just don't have the roads they do!

I'm hoping to arrange a one-day ride-out in the spring, probably starting and finishing somewhere round Newbury. Hope that's local enough for the Oxon/Berks/Wilts/Hants etc. peeps.

It certainly can be a lot of miles 'just' for a ride-out but we are sponsored by Carlsberg.
Well that's excuse for hitting the bar!

Stevecat must hold the record for distances covered to rideouts.

Still getting my head round him going home from North Scotland to London via Ireland.

You can always make a holiday of it by visiting other places/friends on the way there/way back.

We can't have you doing your own wee rideout round your own wee town now can we........where's the fun in that. Unless you're got a 'really' good pub there of course.

Cheers

I'd love for the Cotswolds route you've been mulling over to get off the ground. Might even make for a good weekender too, lovely part of the country round that way Thumb

It's quite simple really Very Happy When I was planning my return route I was due to be around the lakes on a Bank Holiday, accommodation was difficult to find as most places wanted 3 nights occupancy. Sooo I hit on the idea of leaving the country to avoid the holiday Shocked Portrush one day and The Ring Of Kerry / Killarney the next. great

Had I not done that 'detour' I'd have got home and a day or so later headed back north to the ToL, so a few miles either way Wink

The thought of long distances can be daunting. Some of the ride-outs I just get there and get back home, other times I make a holiday out of it.

When I get my Mojo back and the weather improves maybe the suverners can meet up.

I'm in Manchester and there seems to be a lot going on sort of around me but just out of reach. If anyone does a ride out cheshire, north yorks, north Wales, Preston way I'd love to meet up. Failing that will try to attend something further afield this yr.

Looking to get on the advanced road safety course this yr and the instructor on the phone last night said I need to get A LOT more miles under my belt as they very rarely if ever take on new riders,

Will be attending their monthly ride outs for experience but need a few thou under my belt quickly. On waiting list though!!

Steve,

You need to be getting on some of the rideouts!
Wee Mac - 13th - 15th April
This is already over-subscribed so accommodation needs to be found nearby. I wanted to go, but didn't want to be stuck out on my own. :( If you want to share accom (if it can be found), taxis and the trip there and back then let me know.
Bishops Castle - 25th - 27th May
I'm already booked on this one, but there's plenty of accom in BC if you want to join in.

Each will get you several hundred miles under your belt AND you'll have a great weekend!
I'm sure there'll be other days out arranged too.

Food for thought?

Im seriously going to consider the Bishops Castle that looks like a riot. Even if not the full weekend the welsh leg of the ride alone looks pretty cool.

Think the Wee Mac might be a bit of push for me though, 200+ miles just to get there might be asking a bit much of myself so early on but in saying that, if I can stop over somewhere on the way up no harm In joining up for a ride out and meet up with the guys, I'll have a look at the fiscals later and let you know.

Just out of interest what sort of figure are we talking for a weekend like this including food, digs/camp fees, beer tokens etc?? Obviously fuel is a separate consideration depending on where I ride from so I can work that out!!
