How's everyone getting up to The Big Mac
Hi All,
I've been planning my trip up north and was wondering what everyone else's travel plans were?
My plans - leaving Thirsk around 2pm on Thursday to head up to Ross's. Will be going via Alston if the weather permits and then a not too direct route across The Borders - I want to avoid the motorway if at all possible. Plans are flexible if there's a chance of meeting up with others for the trip up. Otherwise I'll see some of you on Thursday night and all of you, I hope, on Friday night.
Safe riding everyone. Looking forward to this a lot. Going to get wet, but ...... it's Scotland!
Cheers,
Chris

Re: How's everyone getting up to The Big Mac
Rosco posted up a route from Newcastle through Peebles in another thread, it isn't a bad route.
Anyone coming up via Carlisle could cut off there along the A7 to Selkirk and pick up the same route.
-edit- Here's Rosco's route.

That's the plan. I'm sure I can get myself to Pebbles without a problem. Not far to Ross's from there.

I was going to aquaplane up the M6, but might leave that for the return leg <yawn>
Can meet at Thirsk just before 2 Chris. Whereabouts you have in mind?
Oh I am going after all, a tad confusing after saying I was then cancelling.

Re: How's everyone getting up to The Big Mac
Hi Steve,
Slight amendment to the plans as Rob & Linz have been in touch and I've arranged to meet them at Scotch Corner (A1/A66 junc) at 4pm. How does that sound to you? Good facilities there plus fuel. I'll probably arrive a bit early.
Once we've re-grouped and refreshed we can start the march on Scotland in earnest. Wave a handkerchief or two and they'll be running for the hills. Ahhh, that's where we're going! Oh well - might have to be nice to a few of them.
BTW I understand it's going to be a traditional Scottish Chinese for dinner Thurs night

We will be leaving Clowne (Junction 30 of the M1) at 2.20 as Rob is picking me up straight from work to head towards Scotch Corner to meet Chris so if anyone would like to meet up earlier, give us a shout.

Re: How's everyone getting up to The Big Mac
Oh, looks like this is starting to fall in place.
Martin - let me know by text when you're leaving and when you expect to be at Scotch Corner. If it's within a smidgen of 4pm I'm sure we can wait for you.
I guess it'll take about 3hrs from there to Ross's allowing for all the fuel and fag stops. Should be with you Ross sometime after 7pm.

Re: How's everyone getting up to The Big Mac
That sounds fine Chris, get a chance to squeeze in a few extra detours
If the weathers' horrid I can always skip onto the M/A1.
Linz, I'll let Rob know if I abandon my route and head your way, is his number still *54 ?
Otherwise see you all at Scotch Corner around 4

We're going to Aberdeen tomorrow and planning to catch up with Davey and possibly the German contingent for a ride across to Ullapool on Friday.

Re: How's everyone getting up to The Big Mac
I heard that it had been raining all the way up for Eddie990 and the auld yins until they crossed the border and the sun came out earlier today.
How unusual!!!!
Fingers crossed the weather is kind for all our far travelled guests and even more so for the weekend way up north.
Gotta put my bike back together I guess. Got new heated grips (old ones controller broke and cheaper for a full new set than a controller!!!) and R&G bar ends.
Must remember to break brand new front tyre in gently.
P.s. My garage door is busted so getting the bikes in and out will be a three man job.
Yes a traditional Scottish chinese takeaway awaits the travellers on Thursday night.
Cheers
Rosco

Too young to be keeping them I'm more worried about Rosco's heated grips, that's one item I decided not to put on the new bike this week a few extra pairs of surgical gloves seems to be in order.

Don't worry they're only for show.
Seem to have a bit of an occasional sticky throttle.
Think I might need to give them cable's a lube.
Never done it before.
Might wait until the cavalry arrive.
Forecast it less than a washout.

Occasional sticky, might explain something
If not lubed the cables before, I've got a cable lube gizmo somewhere, if I can find it I'll bring it along.
Glad to hear the weather isn't that bad, I may well be going through some wet patches and could be setting off in the rain. The thought of a potential 11 hours with wet hands excites me no end
