Non cat question Empty Non cat question

Post  alext Fri May 13 2011, 15:06

I've just picked up a cheap old BMW k100 of ebay as Ive got 5 weeks off in the summer and Im planning on riding around Europe.

I rode it 200 miles home and it chugs along nicely, no nasty rattles or bangs, but it makes a weird hissing noise, which sounds like its coming from the tank. Apparently its a common problem on these bikes, is it something I should be worried about and look at fixing, or can I just ignore it?!?

I tried opening the cap but the cobra/puncture is still there! Someone told me it might be a blocked breather pipe, I've booked it in for a service on pay day so I'll get them to have a look. Its still chugging along nicely so I'm not to worried at the mo!

Would have expected the engine to splutter to a stop if it was blocked, and be happy again after opening the filler cap, not maybe a loose vacuum pipe of some description

At first thought it sounded like a blocked breather, but seeing as it does'nt do it when you open the filler cap, I'm inclined to go with Steves theory.
