Winter mods
Maybe it is just because the weather is less than summery lately but i am starting to think about winter projects. This year i want to do a complete strip down literally every nut & bolt & send the frame & swing arm for powdercoating gloss black. Did some googling today & found a powdercoater in birmingham that specialises in bike parts & only 50quid +vat to remove all the original finish with shotblast then zinc coat & powdercoat.
Other bits & bobs of jobs like change fork oil to 7.5w & maybe fit racetech or maxton progressive springs. Anyone else have modding or maintenance jobs in mind for the soon to be winter months?

Re: Winter mods
I'll be stripping down the engine on the Honda XL100 as it is still smoking quite well, even after having a rebore. I'm going to get to the bottom of the problem. I must allow a bit of leeway though cos the engine is 37 years old.
The Fireblade will also get some TLC over the winter as well. I'll be trying to get to all the places you don't normally bother with during the summer. Plus I plan to give it an extra special service as well (don't ask, cos I don't know yet).
Keep me going for a while.

Re: Winter mods
Funnily enough just thinking similiar myself, thinking start off stripping all fairings etc off and see how everything looks, and also looking at going on an airbrushing course so looking at picking up some old knackered fairings to try handy work on!! Thinkin Yazmeen may have completely new look for the new year!!!

Re: Winter mods
Well, I still have a 125 2-stroke crosser with a barrel that needs replacing, if I can ever find the pile of rocking horse poo that replacements are hiding under.
And the Cat needs new rear wheel bearings. I really need to get the brake hoses replaced, probably end up having the swingarm off to do the bearings and linkages. I also fancy rigging up some LED running lights.
I need to lay a deck behind the house too.

Re: Winter mods
The Barnet really does need to get some attention on it this year - my mate has said he'll bring it down to my garage (currently under a sheet at the parents) so i'll have no excuse with regards the polishing etc of it - anything more technical than that and it'll be off to Wildmans again but hopefully it won't need too much - it only needed £300 spending on it when it had been stood for 20 years to get it going again!

Wildmans? In spilsby?
do you use them regularly? I absolutely love the place- they used to look after my TZR 125 in the old days when I was seeing one of the mechanice daughter! do they still use a steel bin for changing tyres and do they still have the big wooden ramp for brake testing?

Re: Winter mods
Lol yep Wildmans in Spilsby. Neil usually gets his 2 MOT'd there. They sorted out the Barnet for me - place hasn't changed - oh, i tell a lie - i think the actual shopfront had a bit of a refit (because they rent it from someone i believe) and they seem to have got quite a stock of bikes in there now but apart from that everything is just about as it was

i'm just down the road from him at Sutterton so if you go round give me a shout - he's not too difficult to find but feel free to have a coffee on the way back or if you do take the bike to him if i'm off i can always give you lift back to Cranwell. Like i say he's done quite a bit on neil's bikes and i've mentioned to him about my wheels but i'm actually going to give him a call about the other bits too. He's really thorough

!
depends how fussy you are about the finish, but actually I wouldn't recommend him, he wont be doing anything else for me.. I'm not sure what sort of job he did on that Thundercat either as the thread has been deleted and the customer gone a bit quiet... there was a bloke over on the saxilby road who did a decent job on my Guzzi, sadly he's packed in painting..
AndyB - I'd be interested to hear if you do find anyone else locally..
