Thundercat is in hospital
Evening all!
A slightly eventful night..
Was out testing my mates Thundercat for him. Nice and smooth for the most part..
Done about 40 miles of fairly quick speeds and twistys, came back into town over some speed bumps all ok ..
Head onto a straight NSL road, give it some throttle, pick up to about 60mph when all of a sudden there is a huge bang and loud knocking
Pull over, i see that the chain is very slack, i coast it at 5mph up the road and end up stopping again, the bike was not going any further.
Got my mate out with some tools so we could tighten the chain enough to get it back along the road, a few links snapp, the chain was fucked beyond repair.. Bike now is not lying in my mechanics shop (hospital)
Just looking back, and i am happy this happend at 60mph and not when i was going abit faster..
The chain was the correct tension before i went out, and i had lubed it all up..
But seeing as how the bike hadnt been used in months its no suprise it failed on me. First time i have broken down.. Happy it wasnt my thundercat my cat is to well behaved for that kind of nonsense.. Anyway just thought i would share that with yo

Re: Thundercat is in hospital
it almost did thats why i decided to stop rather than coast it. On the plus side tho, i was in full gear, which is always helpful

You ARE a lucky man that it didn't throw you off.. ! Snapped chains rarely have happy endings...

Re: Thundercat is in hospital
Heaven's forbid, I go away for a few days and look what happens - Ouch, good on you for stopping. That could have been really nasty.
Glad you're OK.

Re: Thundercat is in hospital
yea, the bike had race sprockets that should only be used for 1k and at a max 2k
Needless to say average joe isnt going to know this until they atually look at them.
My bike needs a carb balance/clean, as i expected it would, typical carb'd engines.
The chain was not loose when i went out on it, so its got slack in a very short space of time, im not as careless with my bikes tho, i clean my chain 3 times a week and lube it daily, end of the day no one was hurt. Lesson learned for the owner tho
