ToL 7 2010 - proposed venue change
Hi Folks,
Spring is here, warmer weekends herald the start of my biking season and so thoughts have turned to the Taste of Lincolnshire 2010.
This year it will be the Taste of Lincolnshire 7 and I think it's time to widen our horizons this year, as we did for Tol 4 2007, and include some of the best bits of East Yorkshire and the North York Moors. A first draft of the route has been made and this will be refined between now and September. Whitby will be our goal! Pray God this time it doesn't all fall apart at the seams.
So yes it will be the mearest smidgen of Lincolnshire, but that will be but a fine appetiser to the main course.
I hope you'll want to join us.
Now, shamed into action by the ever increasing standard of organisation by the other esteemed ride-outs, I've been looking for a location that can accommodate us all together over-night and for dinner. I've been aware that in previous years obtaining accommodation nearby has not be easy, especially with one of the local pubs with rooms closing down. There is only one B&B next to the pub we've used and competition to book the rooms has been fierce. So I've trawled the local area for alternatives and think I might have found one, but I need some feed back from you before changing the venue.
I've found a hotel that has the facilities we need and, currently, has the rooms we may need. However I'm concerned about the cost. They can do bed and breakfast for £34 per person per night. Is this unreasonable? This is a special weekend leisure rate that requires two consecutive nights to be booked and double occupancy of a room. They have twin and double rooms. What do you think?
You would need to book and pay for your room as soon as you can, but these can be cancelled up to 48hrs before without penalty. The hotel is in a fantastic location with views over the Humber to the Humber Bridge, plenty of parking, a good restaurant that can accommodate us all for dinner, the bar and nice lounge. There's even a Spa attached if you need to de-stress after, or before, the rideout. It is a popular wedding venue so this dictates the date of the ToL. They are currently un-booked for the 3rd and 4th September so I propose that weekend. Room choice may be severely limited on other weekends.
Here's a link to the venue. Check out the rooms and the food!
Please post up whether you will be attending the ToL this year and whether you would be happy to book this venue.
I have no relationship with this hotel. I'm simply seeking out a better base for the ToL weekend that keeps everyone together, removes the need for late night taxi journeys and can provide good quality accommodation and food. I hope you agree. The weekend leisure rate is £136 per room for two nights with breakfast and needs to be paid in advance. It will mean we will need to co-ordinate bookings via this site so that rooms are shared to take advantage of this rate. I think we can do it?
Summary:
Please give me your feed back asap. I'll review responses in a weeks time.
Cheers,
Chris

1st on the list (apart from Chris)
Yep.....I'll be up for that Chris.
Can't believe you managed to undercut the Wee Mac B&B rate by £1.
Good to hear they cater for wedding parties......We will have been smiling all day and getting at night too so they will be used to that kind of thing. I might bring my kilt!
Cheers

Jeez, it's Nick I'm worried about You mean he'll have had 17 days of de-restricted Ellie prior to ToL! I'll warn the spa, and the bar, they'll need extra staff.

Re: ToL 7 2010 - proposed venue change
I'm a 'maybe'. The new baby will be only 2 months old (ish) at that point so we won't know until then how well it is all going, how our eldest is getting on etc. I might book up now on the understanding that I will cancel very close to the date if things don't work out.
By the way, your "appetiser" of Lincolnshire looks like about 2 minutes to the Humber bridge. That's no more than a bowl of nuts before the starter arrives!

Re: ToL 7 2010 - proposed venue change
i'm in ....... only question i have is ........ what happens if you're single - does it then work out that you'd have to pay £68 pn per room or would we (or me!) just have to look for something else nearby - can't afford to fork out £68 per night in all honesty

yamahamad & espaceman3
Glad to see there'll be some new faces joining us. Look forward to meeting you.
Suzie
Glad you've asked the question - I'll try and clarify.
If you must have a room to yourself then yes it's expensive and as far as I can make out the price doesn't change if only one person is in the room. I will clarify this with the hotel and give you a definitive answer next week.
However I was hoping folk would be able to arrange to share rooms in order to keep the cost down. If there's enough support for this kind of arrangement my idea was to set up a page on the site where you can enter your name and match up with another 'single' to ensure we get double occupancy. You could use the Private Messaging system to agree and arrange booking of your room.
Sounds like I'm setting up an online dating agency!
We're a friendly bunch so this should be possible Hey, what an opportunity to get to know each other!
Remember we're motorcyclist so snoring won't be a problem, just bring a spare set of ear plugs
Let me know if you've any more questions.
Cheers,
Chris

Re: ToL 7 2010 - proposed venue change
Chris,
Would like to be a tentative for this.
My dad might be over from the US and Pam might be in Mauritius - so sorry can't give definites or numbers.
I don't mind it only being a taste of Lincolnshire rather than the full trick, my geography's so bad I wouldn't know if I had left (yeah, OK the signboards would give it away)

Chris. Put me down as interested. I'm one who doesn't know who will be attending but as I'm in Hull anyway i can toddle across the bridge for the meet up, drive back and get the bike out in the morning. or visa versa.
Hopefully it will be me and the missus. I look forward to it.

Re: ToL 7 2010 - proposed venue change
Just bumping this up again to maybe catch a few more opinions.
Looks like this might be a goer, but as stated I'll review over the weekend and post something definite up early next week.
Thanks for all the opinions so far.
Toni - don't worry it'll be just as good next year! Hope to see you then?
