24,000 mile service, how much should that be?
Hi, I'm new to the forum but thought I would join to see if anyone could tell me how much it should be for my 24,000 mile service? I am a new rider and havent done the 24,000 miles so needed a steer.

Re: 24,000 mile service, how much should that be?
Hi Gaz, welcome to the forum.
Mine has just had her 30k one and tbh i can't mind how much the 24 was ....... it wasn't a great deal but if no one has the answer off the top of their heads i can ring my mate for you at the garage i take mine and find out - they always say with Ezz a lot of it is labour in taking off the farings (in fact i do now have the option of riding her in 'naked' -thats the bike not me obviously, i wouldn't wish that on anyone , taking them off when i get there or leaving them to do it)
What i can tell you is mine has just had the biggy including mot/valve clearances/carbs and that was £274 all in... i seem to think last one was around the £150 - £160 mark all in as far as i remember
Suzie
PS ... Nice to see yet another in the best colours ........ we really are taking over..... today the forum, tomorrow ... THE WORLDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

Gaz,
Guess it depends on the service history. If it's up to date, then you can see what will need doing - if not then assume nothing has been done and plan to get most things checked or replaced over time.
Oil and filter is a given at all services, plugs not needed everytime. Might want to have your brake fluid replaced, at least the pads and calipers checked.
The price will also depend on who you take the bike to.. Not much of a guide, but I'd expect £180-£300 depends on what has to be done.

I was quoted £320 for a 24000 mile service recently so I got a good friend of mine to do it for 2 crates of beer and £30

Wow, what a great forum. Thank you all for all the kind welcomes and helpful comments. Just to add a bit more to my story it seems I need the ‘shims’ done as my Cat is making a bit of a noise. I believe this involves stripping everything down and swapping them about as required. I have been quoted about £400 for this. Too much? About right?

The tappet shims is a time-consuming job as the camshafts have to come out to remove/replace them. However, it is not often they need doing, so make sure they are measure well first, to avoid the need to dismantle unnecessarily.

Re: 24,000 mile service, how much should that be?
Gaz, I'd get a second opinion - rarely need doing. Might be a cam chain noise?
When I asked my mechanic to check them he said he does a compression test, if thats fine then in his mind the shims don't need checking.

Re: 24,000 mile service, how much should that be?
Seems I need to get a second opinion on this as £400 seems alot for something which might not be needed.
Having checked the log book it seems the oil filters not been done for about 10,000 miles and it missed its 20,000 and 24,000 service. Nothing like learning the hard way
Off to the MCN Bike Show in Edinburgh tomorrow so lots of people to quizz on it and bikes to check out
